The key to acquiring a perfect bedroom isn’t just about having the best design. It is also about bringing in positive energy into your place of rest, and using it to benefit your general well-being.
Singaporeans are already stressed enough. All we want to do after office hours is relax and be away from work-related thoughts. We often overlook the power of Feng Shui, and don’t realise the advantages it can bring into our lives.
You’ll only understand what you’ve been missing out after you try these tips! So here are 10 things you can do to your bedroom that will help you become a more well-balanced individual.
1. Soothing Colours
Use earth-toned colours like cream, peach, or light yellow to create a restful atmosphere for your bedroom. Light pastels like blue and green promote serenity as well. Avoid bright colours as they can be too stimulating, which may result in overall uneasiness.
2. No Water Elements
Water gives out a lot of Yang energy. Not only does it disrupt sleep, it can also bring harm to your wealth and relationships, so keep the water features and paintings of water scenes out of your bedroom.
3. Strong Headboard
Choose a strong headboard that is preferably made of wood. It provides a good support for your body and life, and shields you from the hubbub of the outside world.
4. Varying Levels of Light
Your bedroom should be able to receive sunlight easily, and have different arrangements of artificial light at night. This will enable you to switch to dimmer lighting and help to balance your energy levels. Consider using candles as they create a cosy and healing environment.
5. Mirror
Mirrors shouldn’t be in your line of vision while you are resting, as they are ‘energetic’ elements that can disturb your sleep. They also invite infidelity and relationship problems, so keep them closed or covered in fabric when not in use.
6. No Window Behind Your Bed
Chi enters and leaves the room through the window. If your bed is placed underneath it like the one shown above, your personal energy may get weaker in the long run.
7. Bed Placement
The best position for your bed is the corner diagonally across from the entrance. You shouldn’t have your feet facing the door, as it is an unlucky position that signifies the coffin placement. However, keep the door in sight because it will increase your sense of security, and allow you to have control over whatever comes and leaves the room.
8. Soft Edges
When choosing your furniture, opt for items with rounded lines instead of right angles. Rigid corners build a ‘sharp’ atmosphere that can in turn, bring bad energy to your life.
9. Inspiring Art
Select art pieces that exude cheerful energy but are not too loud, or things that depict what you want to achieve in life. Place it on the wall at the foot of your bed so you will always sleep and wake up feeling inspired.
10. No Electronics
Most of us are guilty of this, but it is also one of the biggest no-nos according to Feng Shui masters. Electronic devices distract you from proper sleep, and the magnetic field they generate can upset your well-being. If you must, keep them away in cabinets so they will not be obvious features in the bedroom.
