Looking at a paint catalogue and couldn't decide from the wide spectrum of colors? Most people feel less confident on whether the paint color will suit their home.
Going to the paint store before deciding on the color will be making you work backwards. Why? Basically because you will start having to source furniture pieces to match the walls instead of the other way round. So before heading out, here are a few tips:
Tip #1 : Determine color concept
Choose if you would like to have more neutral colors or 'Wow' colors for your home.
Neutral colors are colors that are white, gray, taupe, beige, tan and the Wow colors are colors that are anything other than the neutral colors.
Next, with the help of a color wheel, choose between warm or cool colors. Orange, red and pink are considered warm colors, while blues, greens, and violet are thought to be cool.
Tip #2 : Collect fabric and floor samples
When you go shopping, you'll need to refer to your fabric, carpet, tile, wallpaper so that you can get the right color to go along with. Be sure to take everything with you before you go.
Tip #3 : The Lighting Effect
Fluorescent light or warm white PLC downlights? Have in mind what are the type of lighting you are going to install for the room and get a true view of a paint color in that light and also in natural light. Test paint chips in natural daylight to show its true color. Incandescent lighting gives out warm tones and yellows and fluorescent lighting effects a sharp blue tone so a strong color might be too bright when used on all walls and may be more suitable to highlight only 1 wall.
