We all know selecting wall colours is a majorly important process. And although it's mostly about picking shades you adore, there are some minor guidelines which can help make or break the overall outlook.
Our best advice? Avoid these commonly made mistakes and you'll be safe!
1. Overly Bright Colours
Most people who choose bright colours do so because they make a pretty cheerful statement. However, some proceed without first considering how airy and well lit a space is. When a room is compact and without ample light, the colour comes off as overly intense and doesn't feel easy on the eyes.
2. Using Trendy Colours
You'll see lots of trending shades as you sift through home decor websites and magazines. We don't deny they look splendid, but don't be too easily swayed unless you truly like the colour. If you're selecting a shade based solely on what's hip, you'll feel instant regret the day it goes out of style.
3. Playing It Too Safe
We know neutral tones are largely popular because of their constant ability to stay current, but don't let that stop you from being a little bolder. Toss your fear of having to repaint and pick daring shades that you genuinely enjoy looking at. Otherwise, your whole house is going to feel boring doused in only muted tones.
4. Utilizing The Same Palette

Some do it because there's less hassle involved, others do it so the entire house feels in sync. But using the same palette in every, or almost all, of your rooms shows a dire lack of expression. It eliminates the usual thrill colours can bring to a space, and makes it feel a little too uptight.
5. Excessively Differing Shades

While we previously addressed the issue of using a single tone palette, having the colours in each room differing too much from one another can also cause a problem. There has to be a sort of connectivity between the colours chosen, an anchor which they all link to, so your home feels like a single entity.
6. Matchy Matchy Elements

Matching a wall colour to your furniture can look pretty chic in your head, but in reality it's not the loveliest sight. Your furniture will end up blending into the walls, turning totally unnoticeable. Instead, having your walls painted a shade lighter, or darker, will allow everything else inside to stand out.
7. Using Paint Chips

Using paint chips to check if a colour works for your room is probably the most commonly used method. However, it's insufficient to rely solely on paint chips, since you won't be able to tell how it really looks across an entire wall. Instead, paint a few large swathes in different areas, testing it under several lighting conditions.
