the box(plain plastic box how exp can it be? ) is dirt cheap actually - it's the labour charges to remove the wires from circuitbreakers, fix back to new box, rewire back.....

One part of the whole renovation that i find VERY difficult to save is the electrical wirings, try to save from carpentry.

1) average downlight cost around $20 or less (good looking ones not cheapo types)

2) a downlight is just a casing with a screw on energy saving bulb inside.(most commonly found)

3) for 20x downlights get those with just a single bulb - the double bulb designs are OLD designs.

newer single bulb downlights with all the reflectors is actually brighter than those old design 2x bulbs.

4) i bought mine from thomson lightings( IMM and Balestier plaza) - $17 nia(new design).

Hi DLIM...

FYI... I bought my downlights in a JB hardware shop near to Lorenzo JB.... including the Phillips energy saving 10W bulbs.... the downlights cost me only RM16 each. Of course, larger (18W bulbs type) and prettier ones will cost more (RMB20+) but still way cheaper than in Singapore.

No sense making a trip to JB just to get downlights but if you are there on an outing anyway, why not? A light is a light... as long as you like the casing design (which I honestly don't find any difference with the ones in Singapore)... all the bulbs now come from China anyway.

Square one got block by the plastic case which i feel will be less bright but square look nicer.

Square downlight not using screw in bulbs right ? Cause i remember see tubes-form . So this one got

i think hot......just think only la............that if u get square ones, your alignment must be spot on....cause if u mis q even by a bit, super obvious

but if u take round one............as there is no corners for point of reference, not that obvious de lor. !!

go visit MORE lighting shops.

how bright the downlight is - depends on the design, as i have said earlier older designs you need to put in 2 bulbs YET it isnt that bright compare to a single bulb downlight(latest).

They should be available both in screw in and plug in..... but very troublesome to change bulbs either way since you have to get as high as the light to change the bulbs from the sides. Square ones usually have a piece of glass cover which I think lowers the brightness of the light. Some of the light also "escapes" from the inside cover.... making it less efficient.

I chose round ones with energy saving plug in bulbs..... very easy to change and optimises every watt of light generated. Some say the light without the cover is very glaring when u stare at it.... but why would people stare directly into the light? I have used such downlights for years and it is very bright and does not cause any irritation to me.

Can I know what do u use to wash the bathrooms? Do u mop or scrub the floor? Do u use floor cleaner for the bathrooms? Also what shld we use to wipe bathroom counter, sink etc...... Is there any all in one cleaner that I can use for all areas of the bathroom?

If bathroom is new... just simple mopping will do. If old and have dirt and grime... then scrub.

Many kinds of cleaner... actually normal soap or even dish washer will do. But if you require something stronger and all in one... go for the advertisement... Mr Muscle lor.

bathroom floor i do scrub once in a while(for months) - but as i have a ventilator in the toilet, the dirt/stain takes mths to build up cos the toilet is always DRY. As long as it's DRY, stains/dirt dont form easily = less cleaning.

I thought the Magiclean (green bottle) is for kitchen grease. Can it be used for all areas of bathroom? I saw Magiclean (white bottle) for bathroom in the supermart..is it good? I do not have a ventilation fan in the bathroom so will mopping be good enough? Do u have any brand of floor cleaner to recommend?

Bathroom , Magic clean = just buy the green one will do. it's powerful enough to remove every type of stain.
