Why not use the horizontal aluminium bars. THey look like japanese style to me rather than a cage.

Or you can try out those designs with flowers etc.

I wonder if there is any sensors available in the market that sense if a child goes near the window..it will sound the siren.

Also you may want to install a epic camera so u can monitor ur precious one while at work.
