Granite

Hi Everybody

As I am choosing granite for my whole floor: living, bedroom, dinning room, any one can give me some suggestions on choosing the granite.

So far, I have learn that granites range from $3.50 to $50 per ft.

And is there any granite (I mean the code) for a lighter colour? Such as white with light pink or green or blue.

My neighbours took 801 code, then there is tys, white peal.

Please advise.

wah... brother here got big budget leh! Granite for the whole house!!

From my previous research, lighter colored granite are mostly from China. In terms of porous density, it is not as good as the Indian granite. But indian granite are only good for dark colors.

I am not really sure about the codes for the different color tones. I know a shop in IMM that has a wide range of natural stones. Shop name is Awin. In a small corner of IMM.

You can go there to check out the stones to see if there are any on display that will suit your needs.

Point to note though... his prices are not all that cheap. But he has the best display of natural stones I have come across. So go there to get information is the best!

White pearl - white with black spots (spain or china)

Royal white - ditto (china)

Bianco conquistado - white with black spots (spain)

Bethel white - white with black (US)

Gardenia white - white with black (US)

Yellow tiger skin - yellow with black spot (china)

Rustic yellow - yellow with black spot (china)

Yellow duna - yellow darker tone with black spot (spain)

but take note that china granite is not good in consistency in color and material properties

For indian granite, I intend to use it as kitchen top and probably granite sink (I found it somewhere here).

And for flooring, I wanted to find one which is very light in colour and very less tiny black dot.

No lah, not big budget. Only move in condition, no design/features wall.

So, intend to spend a little bit more on flooring.

I have been searching the web:

For kitchen top;

Saphire Blue, Emerald Peral, Blue Pearl, Black galaxy, Steel grey or Verde Ubtuba.....

For flooring:

Kashmir White, Implerial White.....

I am still checking and hopefully the above will not cost a bomb.

My budget is around $4 to $8 per feet.

Any suggestions???

Talk to my neighbour today, (floor also granite), she told me she see how they do.

After they lay the granite, they use a machine (not big one), and grind the edges and sides to make it smooth.

Is it true??

Anybody can confirm??

or those composite sink commonly referred to as 'granite' sink?

Really a granite sink.

I will ask the id tomo how much it cost.

I am sure very very expensive!

me only doing granite countertop, using blue pearl

can't use it for flooring coz no budget and i have pets

think there are two kinds of granite flooring on the market

one is granite tiles, it of a standard size and cheaper

the other is granite slabs which is much bigger thus less joint lines but more expensive

which one are you looking at?

Yeah, I am using the 600 x 600 one.

Thought of using the slabs , but will check with the contractor how much I need to pay..

think it'll be nicer to use the slabs if the price difference is not too much

less joint lines means less cleaning problem too

if 600 x 600 i'd rather take those faux-granite porcelain tiles

it's actually porcelain tiles that looks like granite

initially wanted to get that but my mum say too dark

so in the end got one that looks like marble

why don't you go down to balestier road?

saw all the tiles there, got hafary and LSH and hup kiong

got my marble-lookalike at hup kiong and saw the granite-looalike at LSH

the row of shops are directly opposite balestier primary (or is it secondary?) school

if you coming from thomson rd side, it will be on the left side
