Homogenous Tiles - Greyish Stains Alone Grout Lines - Help!

Recommended Posts

Hello home lovers! I've got a major problem with my homo tiles.

The reno of our future home is almost done except for the Homo tiles. What we've used are high gloss tiles thats almost white in color. Everything seems fine as we cannot really see the tiles as they were under the protection sheets. But the heart breaking sight was when after the protection sheets were removed and a round of cleaning done on the tiles!

Dull greyish stains appeared along the grout lines. And its not just for a few pieces of tiles. The whole house was affected. Some stains were more obvious than others and it doesn't help when we switch on our lights at night.

We told our ID about this and he brought in the tilers and tile supplier for inspection. The tiler balme the tiles for being this way while the supplier said he withness such cases before but can't help it cause its a matter of luck. Even if retile, might happen again! For your information, I paid $3.80psf for the tiles and I dn't think its really cheapo stuff.

So instead of starting the blaming game, I will like to seek some advice first. Does anyone know of anyway i can remove the stains? The stains seems to spread from the grout lines towards the centre of the tiles and seems more obvious near the grout lines. Any advice please...my hubby has been getting sleepless nights and it hurts when i see him w panda eyes every morning...pls help...

Hi Bullet, the supplier did recommend some specialist that "may" be able to wash away the stains. But it "may" also not work. I'll keep the name of the supplier under wraps first to be fair to them as we look for a solution.

But in the mean time, do let me know of the solution if you can remember or find out.

Hi Cha, I'll try to take a photo and post it here. But its a bit hard to see in the pics due to the refection of the tiles. :(

How does the stain like?

Got the feeling of oil or?

Hi Devilaz, nope no oily or wax feel to it. And the problem is, you dn't feel a rough or bumpy feel of the stain. The stains just look greyish, yellowish in colour that spreads from the grout line towards the centre of the tile...but gets faintier as it spreads...more prominent along the grout lines...and worse, it doesn't look to be on the surface..... :jawdrop::yamseng::notti:

:( Looks very bad.... now am worried abt mine, my tiles going to be whitish/creamish colour too

Hi reload, it might not happen to you. So no need to over stress yourself. Just ensure that your ID promise you the tiles will be replaced if such things happen. And must not be soft-hearted.

As for our situation, we just wanna be sure there are no other alternative solution before we start to make demands! !! :jawdrop::notti:

Hi Teddy,

Have your problems resolved yet?

Was wondering if you are willing to share your tiles supplier and the type of homo you are getting. It would be good to know and to avoid that particular tiles.

Maybe one lesson is to check the tiles before the workers start laying...

But I guess it would be perfect if the ID, project supervisor or even the tilers can just discover this in the earliest time before actual work, to avoid such rectification works...
