Painting Over Laminates

Recommended Posts

I've a not so pleasant looking shoe rack which we bought 2 years ago to hide inside the storeroom. Recently decided to bring it out. Anyone got any idea if we can buy special paint to paint over the laminates? Hope to change the colour to something more presentable.

Yes, u can try Self-Fix shop where u can get Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer Sealer. This product has water-based or oil-based primer. The paint's consistency is thicker than a normal paint, and no need to sand or prep the surface, just make sure the surface is free of dust and grease. After u paint with one thin coat of the Zinsser primer, up to u whether u want to apply a second thin coat to make sure all exposed surface is covered neatly. After that when dry, u can paint over with any paint colour u like, be it a spray paint or brush-on. Then when coloured paints are dried, u can spray with Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear Spray (can find at Art Friend shop @ Ngee Ann City) as a finishing coat.

U can check these links for the products' specs as mentioned above:

Zinsser Primer Sealer

Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear Spray

Hope that helps :sport-smiley-004:

Cheers!

is your rack cost you alot?? sometimes is whether is it practical to go thru the hazzel of buying the laminates, glue n relay onto the surface..there are alot of laminate suppliers at woodland area, think 1 pieces of laminate cost around $20plus to $40plus..thinking of going there to buy, bring home, buy glue to stick on it, spending time to trim side nicely as it is to be display **** hall area, and blah blah.. if it is not a very big one, maybe you can consider to buy 1 nice one or custom made 1 instead?? just a little suggestion ..no offence and hope dont mind..
