Overlaying Of Tiles

Hi,

im working on a tight budget on reno but i would like to replace the floor and wall tiles of 2 toilets and kitchen. I was thinking overlaying the tiles rather than hack and re-lay. But im not sure how much difference in terms of cost will i be able to save?

the big question: is it worth to overlay?

not worth it.

just hack it n replace ... wont be few hundred more compare to the thousands on the tiles spend.

It is not worth it.

If the original tiles has hollow section, your new tiles may pop out next time. When u knock on the tiles, the sound is different from the rest, a hollow sound can be heard.

if you plan to stay in the house for just 3 yrs then overlay.

or else then the savings you have now will not be enough to cover whatever problems that arises from the tiles in future.

but if u are staying 5 years or more.

Hack and replace new ones. If you are on tight budget. Why not u settle things one by one. Like settle tiles and done up kitchen and both toilets. then capentry will hold until you are ok with it then u can go for second half.
