Hi Folks!

I have read some of your comments on types of tile and I would like to seek some advice on my choice of tile. Recently, I went to Hafary to take a look at the tiles and have selected homogeneous type. However, I can't really decide which type of homogeneous tile I want. I prefer the matt look but worried about the maintainance. Heard it is not stain resistance. I have served few websites but cant find a good explaination on the difference. Maybe by joining this forum, I would be able to seek some advise through your experience. !!

In my experience, Glossy Homogenenous tiles are very slippery when wet. You might want to take note

I'm using matt type of homogenenous tile. I'm not concerned with maintenence as my tiles are all gray/black..

Thanks. I would like to get a cream matt homogeneous tile. My current tile (from the previous owner) is glossy ceramic. I got this sticky feeling when it is not mopped properly and slippery when wet. That's why I thought of changing to matt. Furthermore, it looks nicer. However, not sure if it will be other maintainance issue when choosing this matt finish. Thanks for your feedback.

my house also use matt tiles (glazed homogenous).... So far so good. Better to get Italian tiles for matt finish.... China matt tiles will have stain problem

How much is the italian matt tiles? Not so sure whether the tiles I saw is from which country. I think the price I saw it around $3.20.

Actually, whether to use glossy or not will really depend on your personal preference and your overall design theme. Whether it is china tiles or spain tiles, the price is about the same psf. The only difference between the two is the size of the tiles. Spain tiles only have up to 450x450 whereas China homo has up to 800x800.

Quality for both is similar if you are looking at prices >SGD$2.80.

If you are going for the matt look, there are a varieties of colors you can choose from. Most of the tiles in the market today are from China. Go for the >SGD$3.20 range and you can be quite assured about its quality.

Or if you don't mind the darker colors, Spain tiles give a really good feel on the feet!

I am using light gray matt for my toilet. In a place where there is constant contact with water, there is hardly any stains on the floor.

Maintenance for matt flooring is also quite easy. No worries about slippery floor or water marks when mopping as well.

As for glossy, if you are going for a spacious look, glossy is definitely the one to go. Cos of the high reflective surface, it make the rooms look bigger than it actually is.

Didn't write much for matt tiles though... cos we only considered them for the wet areas like the kitchen and the toilets.

Was at Hafary yes'd to choose tiles and got the 450x450 spain matt homo tiles. But out of stock, got to order.

China tile and spain tiles same price psf? I tot european tiles are usually more ex. When I was at Hafary, did not see any europe tiles below $3.5 psf. Mayb did not look hard and wide enough. Stiles at Changi South have a wide selection of matt europe tiles. Very nice and good feel, but their price on the high side.

My ID told china tiles edges are very sharp (90 degrees) as compared to european tiles (slight chaffered). So if you are using China tiles and your tilers workmanship no good, you can feel the sharp edges instantly if the tiles are not laid evenly.

Thanks! I went down to Hafary again on Sun to ask them about the Spain and China tiles. One of the guyes there told me that the china tile nowadays are glazed homogeneous and stain proof. I did mention about the feedback on China tile but he denied and said its quality is equally good. SO far, the only matt colour found in there is the cream one. After his explaination, I have decided to go for Matt. However, my ID is going to bring me to another tile shop this weekend before I confirm my tiling.. I never know that chossing tile can be so much stressful... Do u have any ideas how much is the spain matt tile? WIthin what price range? I cant find any cream colour spain tile there.. maybe never find hard enough.

Got mine for $3.8 psf. I think the european tiles are on the 1st floor of hafary, mine was displayed there. My ID was the one who recommended.

Went to the other shop (dun know what is the name) at the opposite end of the row of tile shophouses, they also do not have much selection of european tiles, mostly china tiles. Tile shops in Balestier carry more china tiles than europe tiles.

My ID brought me to another tile shop last Sat. Few stops before Hafary. I think the name is Lian Heng Sin. Have many matt looking tile but all made from CHina and the quality not very good. I think Hafary cream matt tile which cost $3.20 from CHina looks better.

Btw, i think LHS tile is much expensive than HAfary..for those range which is similar. I kinda like Hafary than LHS. More nicer tile.. Guess this is individual preference.
