Walls

For walls, you can check for any cracks, any holes.

You can also check for the levelling of your floor. For example, if you pour water on you floor, will it flow very fast downwards, or in your kitchen, or toilet.. If there are no gradient in the toilet, it means the water might not flow fast enough to the floor trap.. and might result in 'flood' next time you bath. Also check for water proofing, any seepage through the tiles in the toilet.

how to check water proofing for the toilets flooring?

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request
if it's mounted on the ceiling, means we're pulling it downwards instead of outwards...

above the kitchen windows, there're pipings inside the wall... risky to mount the hangers there

I think refer to those old type where we hang the bamboo pole, on the ceiling not on the wall.

I will be keeping the retractable hanger too, on the long run, I prefer to have a corner for washing and hanging clothes.. :sport-smiley-004:

can't help on the cabinet as we havn't decide yet. But will keep the hanging retractable one.

as for the oven, we will opt for portable one. As thinking of long term maintenance/ cleaning part issue, i abit worry. currently, we are using a portable one at in-laws place and not really use that EXCEPT for christmas, function.

xlan, thanks for you pix & was thinking along that design too. But was worried that space problem. when pulling the retractable and hang clothings, worry will hit behind the sink there... then jia la

nemofc, me retaining the retracble ting too.. dun think it will hit the sink area.. as the backing is not that high.. as long as the backing keep below the level of our shoulder.. not a full height partition.. shld b ok..

It is better to make it simple and nice just like your cousin kitchen.

That is pretty nice and simple.

Btw, I notice there is an oven below the hob, does your cousin use it alot? (say once a week)

what about the heat produce by the oven? any effect on the cabinet?

As the position is pretty low (below the hob), any consideration on kids playing with it, or even playing with the switches?.

*Sigh... been considering where to put for such built-in oven, and/or whether should go for portable one instead.

I tried J.B area but did not find any nice dinning light.

Oh yes, Ikea lights are really cheap and I will purchase those that cost $12+ +(metal type) for my kitchen, storeroom, studyroom & toilets. I was wonder if we are talking about the the light.

Ya, guess we talking abt the same item. Those lights will are gd for toilet, storeroom etc. The sad thing is i already got my lightings BEFORE i saw the cheap lights in Ikea :furious: . My toilet lighting (simple simple kind) costed my $29. Really :P when i saw the ikea ones.

Hmm! Good Idea!. Why didn't I think of Grey colour... only yellowish or Beige color in my head.

let me check w my spouse and MIL.

Thanks a lot!!

Btw, how's your Built-in Oven design? do you plan to have one? or you go for portable one?

Hmm... any reason of keeping the retractable one?.

was thinking to install a ceiling mounting one and hang bamboo pole for the same functionality.

Anyone having such a thought too?.

Actually, quite a waste we can't reuse that retractable hanging stuff from HDB. *sigh..

hi gadgetgal, hehee.. both me n ID love shades of grey.. :furious:

me not intend to get oven.. know nuts abt baking.. can only steam, stir fry, stew, boil.. etc.. :P

for us.. the retractable is useful.. cos of our height.. shortie ma.. haha.. :P

thanks for the pix.

small kitchen is for those who doesn't cook often. I have checked with hubby, and likely he would cook always if possible (if have a home of our own), even now staying with in-laws, he do cooks occassionally.

btw, anyone buying those old fashion "wok"?

Yeah, my wife gonna buy one new wok for our new home.

And might ask the contractor to make the kitchen top with hob < 3 feet in height.

It is much easiler to cook this way. Dont need to lift up the hand while cooking.

Old fashion? :P

Nope ! I have sponsorship for WMF pots and pans. It comes with a steamer too.

My sponsors got it at 40% discounts. Save me a big bulk ! :P

Ya! Can see that the contractor went super high speed especially from blk 26C onwards... juz hope there won't be long-term problems like water seepage etc... So happy to see all the windows closed last weekend, finally the wait will be over soon! :P

They have a contract to fulfil so they must finish EVERYTHING before 31 Dec 2007. No choice loh. the construction was delayed for so long.

Opps. But yours light should be prettier ya if compared to Ikea.
