Overlaying Or Plastering ?

Anyone can advise whether issit good to do overlaying on the kitchen wall tile ? or is plastering the kitchen wall good ?

Use tiles or stainless steel whenever possible. Easier to wipe grease off.

It would be better not to overlay of wall tiles, fear of next time the tiles pop out. You need to check the existing wall tiles to ensure not hollow pieces.

One of the ID also suggest to me that only the cooking area have wall tile, the rest ask me ti plaster. How much did you spend ?

Hi Applek24, hope you have got your ans to your ques. Its seems that there are more advises against plastering over wall tiles. The bottom line is.. just how much do you think it will cost you to hack off the wall tiles? The contractor will still charge you the cement screeding. If you hack and then plaster, it wont cost you too much, and most important, you wont have a lingering doubt whether the tiles will pop, plaster peel or area getting narrower. Think about it.

apple, i am hacking off all the wall tiles and plastering over. and will only tile up the cooking area. small area only. but then i am going for open kitchen intergrated with dining room. so thatz why i opted to plaster the kitchen walls so that it will look like part of the dining room.

i too, feel that it is not good to overlay.

oh yeah. and when we finally hacked the kitchen we realised it was ALREADY overlaid. haha.

Since I'm tiling the cabinet side, my ID advised me to tile everything since the cost removing existing tile at the opposite side of the cabinet + plastering, cost quite "near" to fully tile. Cost difference maybe like ~$300.

Full tile sounds more durable and yeah, you can ask your ID not to tile at the cabinet side since it's not exposed and you can save a bit from there.

i also did plastering for my kitchen wall. But make sure you use chemical mixed with cement the layer thickness would be roughly about 0.5mm only so not much diff. Than afterthat paint it with sealer before applying emulsion paint. So far it looks okay no cracks maybe it's noly 1month old. For me the cabinet side do not have tiles also but im putting painted glass on the open area looked more modern and also easy to wipe with soft cloth.

Hi andrew, the wall in between the top and bottom cabinet whereby you put your SS backing. I did not install tiles nor the SS backing but i put up painted glass on this side of the wall. Any oil stained etc can be easily cleaned using a soft material cloth.

Thanks for the explanation. Ever thought of mosaic-ing it. I switch from SS=>Glass=>Mosaic.
