Recommended Posts

My chimney hood is up.. but when I stand at the countertop the hood is at my forehead!:notti: When I asked my ID, he said if the hood is being shifted upwards then the suction power will be suboptimal... is this rite?

I really cannot foresee that the hood pressing against my forehead when I am cooking loh.. does not make any sense! :):good:

btw, I am not very tall.. I am only 1.63m only!!

When I asked ID to fix up the hood... I also reminded him to fix it at the height that won't hit the head.... he said there was certain standard height... if I remember correctly there is a certain range of it... not a fix height...

If I am not wrong, for optimal suction, the hood is to be between 70cm to 1m above the hob. Anything lower will be dangerous (don't know why), and anything higher will not have good suction.

Thus, to make the hood at a comfortable height without affecting the suction, you have to customised the height of the entire kitchen cabinet holding the hob lor. I think at this point its almost impossible to dismantle the whole cabinet and redo again...

My dad also have problem with the hood, but the rest of the family is ok. Apparently, like you, the hood came up his forehead and he kept knocking into it because he can't see it. For me, its just below my eyes so I can see it, while for my wife, my mother and other siblings, the hood is above their heads, so its also ok.

the hood can be shifted upwards but it will b more than 1m.. it have to shift at least 15cm more

it looks very weird for the hood to b so low..

Did you eventually move your hood?

some tips in the ariston catalogue :- may be useful

1. Cooker hoods should be mounted 650 mm to 800mm from the hob for optimum results.

2. Replace aluminium/disposable grease filters every 2 months or sooner.

3. Charcoal filters remove odours. They last up to 2 years depending on your cooking style. As a general guide, replace when the charcoal bits inside the filter do not make rattling sound upon shaking.

(If mounted too low, the hood tend to blow the flames if you are using gas cookers.)

Think I'll do mine at 800mm.

Your ID is right in the sense that each time you shift higher the suction power drop. The standard installation is between 600 to 660 mm above work top. Try measure it yourself
