zirhk3355 1 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 (edited) I supposed you mean whether there is a cap on the glass/cup of water? The answer is no, for easy drinking by the Buddha/Gods.But to prevent dirt (or some even say breeding of mosquitoes), you should change the water regularly. enci 1 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 open or close is both Ok ... no matter clean or not, we ought to make it as a practise or chore to change the cup of water daily as an effort to devote our faith to the Buddha. Buddhas are enligthened beings who does not require our offerings to live on, however, as Buddhists, we make offerings not only to remind ourselves that we need the Buddha's guidance n blessings but also as an act of devotion. Therefore, it is important to note that Water represents devotion and generosity, while incence rep the fragrance of truth and light rep wisdom. etc etc ... the most impt is the offering that originates from our faithful heart. 诚心供养 诸佛感应 。。。 南无本师释迦牟尼佛 。。。 祝 卫塞节快乐 。。。 `9ãÀ/õà;ã <ã;õ >ãà>ãÀõP3ã°3ã`Æõp6ãà6ãpùõ 9ã³ntntântîntJ÷mtJ÷mtntntbnt*nt¼ntnt

zirhk3355 1 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 I tink every cup comes with a cover and I tink tis is quite misleading as most willtink tat it should be closed since it comes with a cover! Not all got cover - I am talking about those small crystal glasses like shot glass that (God forbids) the bars/discos use for tequila shots one. These are very elegant and nice lor, especially for those who did not 'kai kuang' for the statue, no need to pray and just want to offer water and flowers... enci 1 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 Then need to do anything for the Buddha other than the normal offerings om Vesak day itself? My kolig say can clean the buddha - Yu Fuo!Vesak is a day to commemorate the Birth, Enlightenment & Nirvana of the Buddha. You can prepare a whole range of offerings from flowers to fruits and vegeterian food as offering to the Buddha all done before noon. It is also Ok if u just wanna make usual offering of just a simple cup of water is also Ok .. why ? becos being a Buddhist is a life-long committment n dedication to living up the faith, to be a "vesak buddhist" is like once a year affair, this kind of "vesak buddhist" would not exprience much blessings in their daily lives but however, being able to even hear the Buddha's name for once or see the Buddha's image a glance, one will gain immense merits, what more about buddhists who constantly make a point to devote to Lord Buddha in their daily lives ?! Blessings will then truly be abundunt!浴佛 Yu Fo, Bathing of the Buddha is mostly carried out in many buddhist temples. It is a symbolic act of cleansing our inner hearts of defilements, in another words, bathing the buddha within our heart. The fragrance of the water poured upon the Buddha's first born image also means that our hearts to be pure and true in dealing with daily life and with family and at work. You can clean your home's Buddha statue anytime, anyday .. no taboos... becos as Buddhists, we need to keep the place clean where we offer the Buddha as an act of devotion and importance in regarding the Buddha as our teacher n protector of the family. Take Vesak as a chance to give praise, adoration and recollect the wonderful blessings and teachings of Lord Buddha... recite " Homage to Original Teacher Sakyamuni Buddha" 南无本师释迦牟尼佛 。。。
