Is A Kitchen Island Doable For My Floor Plan?

I intend to get a kitchen island for my kitchen perferably a rectangle shape or an oval shape. Do you guys think it's doable for this kind of floor plan? Hope to hear lotsa comments and advices.

Your floorplan got a very weird layout.

Kitchen is quite small too, with many edges.

I would advise you not to do so. Unless you took over the study room as kitchen & dinning room

Do some re-layout should be possible. Study can be relocated to the room area.

i would advise against it since ur kitchen has weird angles. unless u have an idea on where u would like to have it ? maybe can share with us here

I find your cabinet too small to accomodate the hob and washing basin (1 or 2 sink).

No space for other surface if you want to squeeze the hob & basin in.

If u put the island without eating into the study, u will have an impressive island but with no cabinets along all the walls.

If an island is what u want.. then go for it by all means. But just need to understand the compromises.

Ideally.. cabinet width is about 600mm, walkway is minimum 900, ideally 1200mm.

An island means, cooker, hob, basin, cabinets all in the middle. Fridge will be in the corner nearer to the study.

Do something that will be something u want, as well as the talking point for all ur visitors.

Hi thanks for your opinion. I think it's good but I think I'm worried are those piping and wiring and stuff like that. Am not sure whether it will cost much more additional costs. I can keep that idea in mind.

For all others, thanks for your replies too. I will think about it further. If it's off my budget, then I have to just live with the normal arrangement of cabinets on 2 sides.

In my opinion, there is too many edges in the kitchen... a round island looks a bit out of place.. for a rectagular island, it could have walking space constraint.. one suggestion will be you knock off the study area... extend the kitchen... if you really aim to do a island within the kitchen, you really need to measure accurately the space... costing wise, my ID never charge me extra leh... btw, i am doing a island too..

btw, are u planning to do a fixed or moveable island ? if fixed, maybe u wan to consider a moveable one ? i'm doing a moveable island for my self due to space concerns

i dun have the layout yet... will post when i get them... i am not installing the hob and hood at the island.. just a sink...

If u really want an island in your kitchen, then you may just have to construct the island in the centre of your kitchen and forgo the traditional cabinet along the length of the kitchen walls, else there will very little space to walk. Make the island the focal pt of your kitchen and install cabinets above the island. Can also consider shifting the cooking area to the service balcony.

As for lack of storage space, can make use of your pantry store. Build some storage shelves to store pots, pants and kitchen appliances which you think your are not going to use often.

Btw, where is your place? There is a lot of odd corners. May have to do a lot of customisation to fit the odd corners.
