It's either I'm too unobservant or what you've heard is plain rubbish. I have one in the living room and I don't remember it causing flickering shadow. Perhaps it's bcos mine doesn't come with a light kit, but in any case, I've heard from others that those with light kit don't cause flickering shadow either. I've heard though, that flickering shadow has to do with where the lights are. Perhaps if the lights are somewhere near above the fan, then there would be flickering shadow. Or maybe if the room is dimly lit - I'm just speculating - then it might seem obvious that there is flickering shadow.

flickering lights are caused by lights above the fan

usually happens when the lights and the fan are separate e.g. lights installed first then fan installed very near the lights...

no problem with fans with light kits

Shadows can occur if your light is above the fan, and quite near it. But if the light is away from the fan, or below it, no shadows.

I have two fans fitted with four lights. No problem at all.

The lights are fitted under the fan and shining downwards so no chance of shadow.

Its not rubbish.

If your floor is super shiny (like brand new polished marble), having a fan with light kit will probably cause some shadows. When the floor is very shiny, having lights from the fan shining on them will cause reflections back towards the ceiling and the rotating blades will then cast the shadow onto the ceiling, leading to the "shadow" effect. This happened at my MIL's place.

My current place is marble as well, that's why we did not replace the fan with one that has lights on it.

shadow on the ceiling shd be ok bcos it wont affect people on the floor.. i think the concern is if the shadow is on the ground bcos it will be pretty irritating and bad for the eyes as well.

The "shadow" can end up on the walls, ceiling etc. So that's why it seems to be projected all over the place.

i intend to have a ceiling fan in the living room too. i think if your light source only comes from one area, the further area may have some flickering shadows.

Have been using ceiling fan (those without lights type) at my current place for the past 7.5 years and do not have this problem. Maybe its because of our parquet flooring that does not reflect lights as compared to those shiny homogenous tiles that are more relfective, thus causing the shadow effect that some are experiencing.

Hi, the resale flat that we bought comes with a ceiling fan with lights below it...makes me dizzy...

since the seller said its an expensive fan, i thot can jus remove the whole lighting part away from the ceiling fan, but the contractor say not possible. he said we better jus change the whole fan to one without lights.

has anyone tried removing the whole lighting part away from the ceiling fan?

nope... no flickering shadows with mine either!

I have one in every room of my home, and there is no problems. In fact, no shadows at all.

So dun fret over it. It is the best investment I have ever made!

Having a ceiling fan really helps, especially on those hot humid nights.

Yap, I took away the lighting part, luckily I still kept the the cover.

Just off the main switch, unscrew the shaft, disconnect the wire and cover back.

I took away the lights as they are very dusty, Luckily, I have plan other lighting point

during my reno.

Oh, by the way, save up the bulbs ,,, still can use .
