Hi All:

We just bought a resale apartment and had a renovation done recently. We bought the floor laminate from a major laminate company to overlay all our 3 bedrooms. Imagine our shock over the weekend when my husband and I returned from our wedding to our new house to discover our bedroom skirtings have turned mouldy and part of the skirtings seemed to be bulging out. My husband pried open one of the skirtings to discover termites infestation!:D

We contacted the town council and they had sent their pest control to investigate and treat. The unit below us is also infected. We are very upset because the floors are new and now even can see the tracks in the kitchen. We're very worried about our new kitchen cabinets. The pest control company told us that the spread of the termites is too fast and they suspect that the laminate wood skirtings may already be infested. For your information, we now discover that only the laminate planks are treated with chemicals against termites and not the skirtings. But the chemicals do not 100% ensure that the termites won't attack the laminate planks.

This has caused alot of inconveniences to both of us and we didn't even get to enjoy our new home. The laminate company has not reverted on compensation. We also feel that because the unit below is also infected, the termites may already be residing in the structure and that there doesn't seem to be concerted measures to check the building. This is really upsetting....

Sorry to hear about your plight. I can imagine how you feel. I had a similar experience, except that in my case, when I returned home from the wedding, our house was flooded.

Anyway, I would suggest that you get your own pest exterminator in to prevent further spread of termite infestation to other wooden structure like cabinets, false ceiling etc. Traditional pest exterminators use arsenic powder, but this is a slow method of getting rid of the termites. A more professional exterminator may be able to prevent the spread using newer methods/chemicals. My brother uses a company that has thermalscanning equipment to track down termites, but it is too **** expensive.

incidentally, i may be facing a termite problem too!

my flat on the 13th floor is now plagued with mysterious piles of round pellets...

a check on the internet seems to reveal this to be fecal pellets of drywood termites!:dunno:

(though the pictures show the pellets to be tubular)

anybody can recommend a good and cheap termite terminator?

do they do guarantees??

thanks!

The town council has got their pest exterminator down already. They wanted to put the arsenic powder but went back because they feel the problem looked pretty serious. They returned with another treatment. They will return next week to follow-up and if need be, administer a second treatment. They also treated the unit below us. They also gave us advice to ensure that no wood furniture are against the wall so now they are all in our living room on our terrazzo tiles.

In the meantime, the laminate company is looking into our case. The pest control guys had feedback that judging by how fast the termites have spread, they believe that the wood they gave have already been infected. We're also informed by the HDB technical officer that there had been incidences of laminate / furniture wood from Sungei Kadut area that's infected.

Firefish, you can take picture and show? The HDB technical officer gave us a pest control contact in the case the town council's one didn't work out. If you want, can give you. Don't know how much they charge though.

Oh dear.. do let us know how it turns out.

I had a big problem with termites in an old apt I was staying in at Pasir Panjang road. They were in the building structure itself. You could see discolouration on many patches on the walls, when the exterminator tracked them down they found not one but multiple nests burrowed deep in the walls eating up the woodwork.

Hi, the problem is controlled now. We hired our own pest control company to monitor and manage the problem in the end. May I know which pest control company you used for your old apartment?
