maestro 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 Ya, is there anywhere to view a demo? Does it work well with furnitures around??? see the videos on irobot.com or even better irobotkorea.co.kr.I think the rattling noise is due to the design. It will not be resolved unless they change the brush. The new robot is quieter compared to the current model. My friend in USA tried it out, and his comments are good. Not sure man, probably I have to give it a shot now. If you are sceptical about this new model, let me buy it first, I test it out, and post a review here. See if the 2nd batch is ok. Then you guys go get it. I need to tweak the power supply first....that is most important now.If you are still doing the MO, interesting deal at www.tryscooba.com, Scooba 380 + free Roomba 400. Buy now leads u to the irobot website.

owens_avenue 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Hi all, I bought the roomba scheduler last april, quite cool. For a demo, you can go to courts tampines, vacuum section, they sell the product there. If want good bargains in the US, you can try amazon.com a lot of model to choose from.http://amazon.com/s/ref=sr_kk_2/103-208188...keywords=roomba
kohsw88 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 My roomba 560 and 530 arrived on Thur. The first thing i did was open up the charger. Yes, I managed to mod it. I charged the roomba and it works! The mod slightly diff from previous...This 500 series roomba is quieter as compared to 4000 series. The color and design are nicer as well. Very futuristic look. I think cleaning wise, both 500 and 4000 series are about the same. However, the lighthouse thingy is great. It finishes my living room, then go to my bedroom and went back to dock in the living room. Quite intelligent. I think this is what you pay for in the new roomba.I would think that 4000 series roomba serves the purpose of cleaning your house. It is a very good vacuum. Unless you want to try something new, if not, no point upgrading. I find that they are just vacuum cleaner, but with better features that I think we can live without it. my 2 cents... STATHIS 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 Anyone can advise how to order from tryscooba.com website? Seems that it will require a US credit card and US address?

kohsw88 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 560 comes with scheduler and lighthouse virtual wall. It can schedule to clean living room first, then go to bedroom then go back to living room for chargin. The lighthouse is doing the work.530 is the basic model. It does not come with lighthouse but just a normal virtual wall. No scheduler as well. Other than that, they are similar.
maestro 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2007 My roomba 535 arrived last week and is now happily going about its work. Agree with bro koh, the lighthouse thing is quite useful, cleans living room first before moving to the bedrooms. Also like the soft touch bumpers. However my roomba is already scratched in the course of duty. I'm using a Newstar 100W transformer as I have no knowledge on soldering etc, will this be bad in anyway after a few months as compared to modding the given power supply? kohsw88 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) Bro, the casing of the roomba also look more sturdy. The roomba is also heavier. The battery and the electronics parts are covered up. In this way, the dust and hair won't get into the PCB. This is a better design. Do you have rattling noise? Mine does not have, so it comes with better brush (2nd version). Also you should have a rubber strip to be pasted on your bumper to protect it. Although the new roomba moves v fast, when it sees obstacles 10cm away from obstacles, it will slow down and bump lightly onto it. It does not response well to thin objects like legs of chair etc...so it might get scratch easily without the rubber strip. Can DIY if you do not have Bro, I tried not to teach ppl mod the charger anymore. It is because of my previous posts, one of these guys who does not have electrical knowledge, tried to mod the charger. He placed the capacitor in the opp direction (wrong polarity) and caused a spark on the charger and get a short circuit. Scare the **** out of him. I would like to remove all my previous posts on mod charger but I can't do it...I realise that it is risky...so if you think transformer does the work, let it be. Have fun Edited October 26, 2007 by kohsw88
maestro 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 but someone warn me that transformer will eventually kill the battery after some time. I tried to read up on this but there's no specific info on why this is so. I thought transformer (although Newstar one I have says convertor) just steps down the voltage. Maybe u have some electrical knowledge can advise if using a transformer got any detrimental effect on battery/charging.My roomba came with the old brush. I have not run it fully while at home to watch it so can't confirm the rattling, I suspect that it rattles when running on the parquet flooring but can't confirm until I see it for some time. I'll write to iRobot to see if they will send the new brush, even if they do will need to incur additional shipping costs.
kohsw88 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 Last time when I was using transformer, it did shorten the battery life. In theory, it doesn't as long as the output is 22.5vdc. Maybe transformer does produce variant signal that cause the charging circuit to charge at a lower vdc at times. This could be the reason. I am very sure that via transformer will consume more electricity though.
maestro 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 so modding the power supply is still the best thing to do for the life of the battery...I think perhaps I need to take up some basic electronics lessons. Do u happen to know if the shops in SLT selling the parts will do the mod for a fee?
kohsw88 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 (edited) Ya, i think they do. They are expert.. i did mod for some ppl here for Free in the past but I thought of it...if something happen later, I am responsible for it...so I stop doing that. So far, none of them complaint, touch wood. Edited October 27, 2007 by kohsw88
