Ex Ordinary Concepts Pte Ltd damaged my kitchen hood and cut off the rubber

Recommended Posts

We would like to share our unpleasant experience with Ex Ordinary Concepts Pte Ltd

https://www.facebook.com/exordconcepts/

Ex Ordinary Concepts came highly recommended by our ID, initial communication with the owner was good. He advised us that if we feel there's anything wrong during the process, just feedback to him and he will get it settled.

It soon turned into a nightmare:

On 30th Aug, Our contractor informed our ID and us that the painting was complete. We went down to check on the painting and was shocked to find that (*see photos):

The paint around the door ledge was wrinkled, and there were paint splatters on our doorknobs and floor tiles. The rubber lining on our bomb shelter door was covered in paint.

We saw uneven silicon fillings along the edges of electrical switches. There was also a hole in the wall above one of the electrical switches. This hole was filled up with sillicon ONLY upon request.

After the painting was done, there was no further work done for two weeks. We checked with our ID and him on what's happening? He called us on 5th Sept to ask for a two-week extension on the Reno Schedule and that he will get the painting rectified. We agreed as we did not see the point in rushing through the work.

The real disappointment came when the Carpentry was delivered. Carpentry came with damages(*see edges):

Laminates have chipped edges and uneven surfaces

Build in hood and oven did not fit properly

One of the shelves was glued to the carpentry interior instead of resting on the shelf holder

Stickers meant to cover the drill holes were pasted beside the drill hole leaving it still exposed

Kitchen carpentry doors were not parallel to each other

There were nail holes in the cat walkway leaving the nail exposed and it was only covered with silicon upon request

Silicon holding the cat walkway had differing thickness: 4mm, 3mm, 2mm

Our ID informed us that she has informed the contractor on the need for rectification but nothing happened. He mentioned that his workmanship is good and that the workmanship is not as bad as what we (the homeowners) mentioned.
He ONLY rectified upon request and has offered to refund ONLY 55% on the kitchen carpentry and one piece of the living room carpentry after we express our disappointment.

More damages were discovered and we would never have discovered the damages if the kitchen cabinets were not removed(*see photos):

Rubber lining at the top of the kitchen hood was cut off to fit the carpentry (there was also a piece of plastic found in it)

After another section of the kitchen cabinets was removed, we saw that the tall boy concrete base was partially filled with a red filling which was cracked after the cabinet was removed. We asked the contractor about the red filling, he said that it was tile grout used to fill it before the kitchen cabinet was installed over it.

For some reason, he wanted us to sign this letter upon handover (*see photo) which we refused.

Wow, seeing the photos, I have to agree that the workmanship is totally unacceptable.

I hope you have not made the full payment and withhold any outstanding payments until everything is rectified. Additionally work with them on a final deadline (both reasonable for him if some of the carpentry needs to redo while also not delaying your plans to move in too much). Your ID shall also help to ensure that things are progressing within schedule during this period).

Should they refuse to do so or if works are still not rectified you might want to inform them that you will be engaging another contractor to rectify all works and they would need to bear the cost of doing so.
