Enquiry on contract issue

i have recently paid a initial  $700  to engage the service of an i.d. however within a week i feel tat i have a got a better i.d and decided not to take up the contract of the 1st and inform him of my decision . However i was told that since i have sign agreement for the contract , i have to pay the stated 10% of the price which work out to around 4kplus . but  nothing has been done for the reno except for the ideas and space planning and i believe that the 3d drawaing also has not been done as it only been a few days from the day contract . i dont mind forfeit the 700. so my question is do i have a case of defence or do i really have to pay the balance10%

Hmm, it depends on how your contract is set. If on the paper it really stated that you need to pay for the 10%, you might not have much choice.
