JW8 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2018 Hi fellow DIY-ers, I have been doing home DIY projects for a few years, but am new to Singapore. I am used to working with pine back home however am not familiar with a lot of the timber types readily available in SG. I’m looking for cheap construction timber that can be used for wall frames and basic furniture (shelves, desks and tables). Can anyone please provide any recommendations on what carpenters/hobbyists in SG would typically use? I emailed one supplier, who suggest Nyatoh, but from everything I’ve read this is more expensive than I’d like. I am looking for real timber and not plywood. Looking for typical standard sizes (1x4, 2x4, 4x4) and lengths of around 2.4m. Thanks!
Pelect 3 Report post Posted March 5, 2018 Finger jointed Meranti (1X2) is one of the cheapest but X4 is not going to be cheap. It's going to be difficult to find straight wood more than 1.2m without finger joints here unless you want to pay much more. Let us know where and how much if you managed to find what you want. Pine is expansive here and not commonly available.
