im choosing granite for my worktop, loved it for its durability n its more scratch-resistant than solid surface.

however, my ID charging me 120 per foot run ( :jawdrop: v ex right?), which comes up to $2700 just for worktop alone for my 22.5ft kitchen cabinet!

Solid surface is $80 per foot run. but cos we will be using our kitchen quite often, so rather pay more for more lasting durability.

I was quoted Indian granite for $100 per foot run in March this year. China granite was cheaper then. Quoted $80 for solid surface too.

Try to bargain on the granite, or go for China granite. They are just the same quality, just different patterns.

granite don't go by brand, coz it's something natural so no manufacturer

it's more of the importer and dealer that cuts the stone

the price is dependent on the country the granite come from

dove, if you need 22.5ft of granite countertop

you might want to consider going straight to a supplier

one of the shop recommended was stiles (builder something) at changi south

as for oil stain, it depends on how well the granite was sealed in the first place

mine had no problem with oil stain even though we cook almost everyday and do a completely wipe down once a week :notti:

they charge separately for the granite slab, polishing and cut-out (for stove and sink)

definitely will bec cheaper than $2.7k :deal:

Hi dove

We went to check out a kitchen design company in Tanjong Katong Complex and was quoted $150 pfr for a Corian worktop (black quartz) - and this is not even granite. Really have to shop around ...

corian is around that price

coz of the brand, suppose to be much better than those $80pfr ones :yamseng:

another countertop to consider if you have the budget is quartz

hardy as granite, no staining problem and can choose whatever colour like solid surface :good:

e one i like is India granite. China granite tends to be lighter in colours, im looking for something darker in colour. will try to bargain on that with her, :notti:

yes yes, i been there too, e firms look all small in size, n u may expect a small quotation too, to my surprise, one contractor which i went there quoted me almost the same price is a mid size ID firm, which naturally, i brushed it off.

great choices available :good:

dove, were you at classic kitchen?

they are expensive but one of the best carpenters around

they have the most well-done showroom i've been to

every other showroom i went to, i am able to spot a few defects within minutes

and i visited almost 50% of all ID/Contractor firms in singapore :notti:

classic kitchen is the only one that i couldn't find any fault with

Hi applefreak,

Ok, good to know price for Corian is quite accurate. Will also checkout quartz.

Actually, we went to Classic Kitchen at Tanjong Katong Complex to get quotes. They did our kitchen and wardrobes in our first flat back in 1991 and the quality was good.

So now considering them again for our third home (ie. kitchen cabinets and wardrobes).

Hi SmartFool,

Thanks for the Corian contact. Will go check them out.

Hi

I'm thinking of seeking out Classic too as my carpenter (from the contractor) is not very creative & couldn't seem to get what I want. Problem is my base was already done by the contractor.

Would you know if this will be any contraint if I decide to switch to Classic?

First time doing cabinet & not sure how it should go. :dunno:

Thanks !

hi kunning, it's actually better that the base is already done

as classic kitchen doesn't have their own masonry workers

so if you want masonry work, you got to get separate contractors

or use the one they recommend, but no guarantee wor :notti:

Was told that granite from India is more expensive than those from China. Was quoted $125 pfr for granite with gold spots (he said this is cost more than plain black granite)... Another ID firm quote me $180 for granite without gold spots and with gold spots will be $220 (faint!)
