Cost Of Parquet Flooring

Recommended Posts

Hi WH1988,

I went to measure my parquet le... its around 73mm width x between 2 foot to 2.5 foot long. Not sure of the thickness though. ;)

Hi ak47sst

My is also 73mm width :good: but is 18mm thick and only 18 inches long.

Do check with you contractor the thickness of your Burmese Teak Flooring

cause in future you may need to resand and revarnish your Teak flooring

due to wear and tear, I mean dents and scratches. :P

With this info the contractor you engage in future will roughly know how

much he can sand off from the surface thickness. :)

wish i saw this before i started mine renovation on timber flooring....

i engaged one of the more established timber flooring specialist and paid premium for it but what i get was some really bad experience.

Lots of poor quality and workmanship and have to go through and complain to the sales to get things rectify.

thought of establish brand would provide good quality but think becos they saw mine is a HDB and not private.

Hey Mackeith,

I hope things are fine after they rectify? If not, try complaining all the way to the top management, big companies are more concern with their reputation.

Just some follow up on my parquet flooring, 3 days ago to our horror, we found an insect nest (can't confirm what insect) and noticed a white ant lookalike inside! Gosh.. I have always heard that parquet keeps away termites.. but now.. feeling scared now and thinking of ways to destroy their community while its still small.

Parquet never keeps away from termites. In fact all type wood, paper, cloth are good food for termites. No woods are termites proof.

Thanks for all the concerns.

we did bring it up to the sales and the management level and hey did came down to rectify but at the cost of our inconvenience. Also the rework is also not up to standards as well but we needed to move in already so we just let it go. Did tried to negotiate with payment but they are unwilling to give further discount (or rather discount is significant - $80 discount for a 8K plus project.....what a joke!) Very upset with the support and work. For people who is looking at doing parquet/wooden floor, i advice is to look carefully, maybe give it to the contractor instead of separate source. Those who interested to know about the company can let me know and i can pm them who to avoid.

Premium price, poor support, poor workmanship. Full of sales talk. dont expect advice or professionalism from their work.

Hi ak47sst

Do check you room cabinet or furniture anything big that is not made of solid wood but chipboard, MDF board or plywood cause I've purchased a cheap book shelf which comes with termites hidden in the base. They manage to digest parts of the last shelve only after a while but leave my Teak flooring alone cause the Teak oil in the wood prevent termites from eating it.

Spray Baygon at places which is dark and damp and destroy any ants nest you come across if you hear slight clicking sound that is where their nest is. :fire:

Mackeith is right look carefully do some research and visit the company if possible don't get deceive by band name, special offer or free gift and no matter how big or small the company is, it still comes down to the final person who is serving you.

Not to forget checking out RenoTalk forums will definitely help. :good:

Hi,

I am looking to lay parquet for my flat and would like to seek everyone's views on these;

1) After laying the parquet, the installer should leave it for the glue to try before coming back 2 weeks later to sand and varnish? Is this true?

2) Has anyone gotten their parquet from Hauhau recently? Can share your experience?

Thanks in advance!

i assume your flooring have plywood base. it not so much waiting for the glue to dry but rather its waiting for the timber floor to acclimatize. Most establish flooring specialist required 1-2 weeks before sanding and i do think you should not rush it. I had a collegue who have the contractor told him only need 3 days and now his floor is having gaps and warps.... so be patient on this.

Hi WH1988,

Thanks for your advice. Wow you are a parquet expert!

Oh yah, we have been shifting our things over the past few weeks and it may be due to that. Plus our furnitures are mostly wood.

Hi utopwe,

Am not so sure of the procedure, but after laying the woods, my contractor did wait for more than a week before sanding and then vanish. He said it is to wait for the materials to settle down (pardon my layman terms) and in case of any "movements" due to expansion coz of the weather. Hence, in my own opinion, overlaying does not matter bah?

Just for your info as well, we couldn't stand the smell for many days after the finish touch-up. So be prepared for the whole project to take quite a while before moving in. :paint:

Thanks all for the note.

Can I also check for teak, are there lighter or darker tones for them? Cause from what I see, the lighter shades of parquet flooring seems to be the hardwood (maple, birch) rather than teak.

Thanks.

Hi utopwe

Try AK47sst link http://www.flickr.com/photos/ak47sst/3472566013/ on Teak flooring tones.

If not try hauhauparquet.com they have smaller pic. It is natural for Teak Flooring no matter

Burmese or Indonesia Teak to have lighter to darker color however Teak from Indonesia has

slightly lighter color compared to Burmese Teak which has richer Teak oil content.

Depending the adhesive use it is best to allow the wood flooring install on water base adhesive

to completely dry up before sanding and varnish. This is to allow adhesive to bond firmly to

the wood flooring and also allowing the water in the ahesive to evaporate thus minimize any

shinkage that will happen in future. At least allow two weeks for the drying proceed if possible.

Try not to rush through the installation process this will allow the wood flooring to serve you

and your family better and longer. :D

Hi, can anyone share with me the pricing of parquet psf?

I'm considering to lay it in all my bedrooms.

Thanks in advance!

Common prob faced with Resales Condo/Aprt units where parquet damaged/darken near tiolets & windows. Thanks to Mr Wood Varnish proposed cheap & effective ways to restore and replace badly damaged ones. Only have to spend $800 repairs + grind, sand & varnish for all 3 bedrms. Otherwise i may hv to spend few Ks just to replace floors.

Highly recommended ! :D Mr Wood Varnish a call 1-800-Varnish.

Their surveyors are very pro n knowledgeable. Give clear explanation of how repairs job carry out. :good:

Need some advice on pricing for parquet polishing. Was quoted 500-600 by my contractor for 2 bedrooms. Each bedroom about 10ft by 10 ft. Ex?

Got lots of scratches in one of the room, esp. at the door area. not sure if it is due to the door alignment or the parquet rising up. The door will scratch when we open and close it. Sigh.. heart pain :(

Oh.. SoConfused must be from Mr Wood Varnish la. All 12 comments promoting the company. Hee.. :P

Can I have more impartial view from others?

Thanks!
