Renovation Payment

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I will be collecting my BTO key this year and currently still looking for renovation ID/contractor.

Initially I was planning to engage contractor for lower renovation cost. After meeting up with both, it seems the quotation for both contractors and IDs are the same nowadays.

I have met up with a few IDs and contractors. For the IDs I met, all of them require 10% downpayment before producing 3D drawing. And for the contractors, they require 10% deposit before providing detail quotation. I would like to know if this is standard practice?

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

For ID, standard is produce 3D after you confirm. But detailed quotation must be produced before you confirm, if not how to confirm? The contractor is trying to be funny, look for others.

When comparing quotation between ID and contractors, you need to take note of the details. For example kitchen cabinets, ID will usually quote cabinets with internal coloured PVC and blum soft closing fittings while contractors usually quote white internal PVC and normal hinges so while contractor might seem slightly lower but the material used are also inferior. Range of laminates available to choose, brand of quartz top, type of vinyl flooring etc might also be different between ID and contractors. These are the kind of things that you need to take note of in the quotation portion to ensure you get a fair deal.

I don't think that the contractor asking for a 10% deposit before providing detail quotation is a standard practice. Like Hwmook mention, look for another contractor.

can't really blame them also. many of my friends simply take the drawing from one contractor who done it before receiving payment, and went around asking for cheaper and cheaper quotes through many rounds of comparisons. the original contractor who provided the drawing FOC was not paid at all.
