Hi all , me and my wife had just finish our beloved home renovations with Summit Design Studio .

Hereby Wanna express my many thanks to The designer for helping us construct our dream home so beautifully and warmth . All my relatives came over our house and they

were full of praises .

Basically here is my experience during the renovation process :

1)Tile area - 8/10 groove line gap small

2)Plumbing area - 8/10 some hole open abit too big

3)Ceiling area - 9/10 fast but a bit messy during process

4)Painting area - 9/10 never use any bangala ( ease my worries cause bangala don't know how to paint nicely )

5)Carpentary area - 9/10 uses blum hinges and all defects are being rectified as promised . http://www.renotalk.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/smile.gif

6)Worker area - 8/10 they respect that we hate ciggrettes smell as we are non-smoker and we never see them smoke during our visit to site

7)Material area - 8/10 checked that they use original materials as promised

8)Designer area - 9/10 we like his friendliness and his eagerness to take charge of the project . His designs and knowledge really amazed us .

Help us save some money too .

Overall we would say Summit Design Studio is worth a ID firm to shortlist for renovation project. Good luck to others who are still in progress of research . Enjoy yourself .

Hi, this is a belated review (reno completed Nov last year) of services from Summit Design.

Quite a simple project (but still, being our first home, we naturally had high expectations) - 2 bedroom new condo, so no hacking was required. We knew exactly what we wanted - a kitchen island, storage at the tv wall, a display cabinet, planter decking, bay window laminates. However, we also had a strict timeline to meet.

We met up with quite a number of IDs shortlisted through renotalk and magazines, and *** seemed to be the best fit for us. As we didn't enjoy communicating with the pushy ones ("why don't you sign up first and we can slowly go through the designs later"), the boastful ones ("look, this is my project on Home and Decor magazine" x infinity), we appreciated *** ability to balance aesthetic with practical ideas, and his willingness to listen to our needs, design ideas, and budget. He was also able to do quick sketches well (my spatial intelligence is quite poor, and his were one of the few I could understand without trying too hard), and had pretty good product knowledge. Although this is my first time being a homeowner, my family has engaged contractors and IDs a number of times, and I've seen firsthand how some of them can be very defensive, how some cut corners, and how some have absolutely no control over what their suppliers do.

The schedule went largely to plan (any deviations, *** would notify us). Hiccups were dealt with quickly and fuss-free, without any excuses or fingerpointing by *** nor his suppliers. Workmanship of painters, carpenters and electricians met and sometimes exceeded expectations and they were easy to communicate with. Once the reno was done, *** was also very stringent with the checking, identifying some defects that we didn't notice and making swift arrangements to rectify them.

Overall, we're pleased with *** services as he was able to take into account our design requirements and principles, and include his advice without being overbearing. More importantly, his good service and disposition were consistent throughout the entire process - from confirmation to delivery.

I understand that home renovations can be a hit-and-miss process at times. For our case, we're just glad that we did our homework and shortlisting, placed our trust in ***, and everything turned out well. Good luck to those trying to find a good ID - I hope this review helps!

(Edit: having read this again after posting it, I realise some might have their doubts - one hit wonder (now that my reno is over, I probably won't be coming back here to post again) - must be a hoax. It's up to you to decide. smile.gif My account isn't new anyway, have been a lurker here since 2007 when I helped my family to decide on an ID.)

Oh my... It was really sian to face these situations.

I'm not sure where I read from, but this certain forum mate made a good point. We shouldn't scrutinize the firm based on certain IDs.

For example, Carol who was my ID did a great job...

The general cleaning was done as written on contract but due to some miscommunication for painting touch up, she threw in additional cleaning for me.

Cleanliness wise was acceptable.

Rubbish throughout the renovation was regularly cleared. Of course, upon handing over, the unit was good for moving in.

I just move into my place for 3 months and yet to face any issues for the time being.

But friends and relatives advised me on possibility of IDs ignoring our issues so it maybe good to bomb their main line and not call the ID if he/she should ignore us.

Hopefully you need not face such issues anymore! :)

Hi,

I'd like to share my reno experince with SUMMIT Design. My ID was Johnson. Unlike DerrickLee, I wasn't so 'lucky.

It was started quite OK, until tge project started. Although it was highlighted to Jihnson that this woul b a fas track project (full renovation for a 3NG for 2 months), workers were working 'on and off' 1 day a few workers were there and the next 2 days no works was being carried out at all.

Coordination amongst sun contractor was poor. As mentined earlier by somebody, SUMMIT give all their works to sub contractor. That's the reason why if your renovation work was during 'peak period' you have to wait for 'your turn' for the sub con to attend to your place. That's excactly what happened to me.

In short, fast forward to the next 2 months. One day before my family suppose to move in to our new place, it was all meesy, dusty not suitable at all for adults (we have a 2yrs old baby btw).

NO ONE, came to our place to tidy up all the rubish the contractor left. As my move in date can' t be pushed back (my cntract at the previous place was ended and we deaperately needed to move out), I had no chioce but to engaged a bunch of 'cleaners' myself (including me, and it cost me $500 bcoz of the last minute thing) to clean up the place. Just to describe, the mess I'm talking about are: all left over tiles roughly about 10 boxes of them, big gypsum boards about 10-15 pcs, not to mentione all the sand, gypsum powder and cement.

I can deal with not so good workmanship, BUT someone with UNSYMPATHETIC heart (I'm not sure about you guys) it just too much for me.

Now, that my renovation work is 'done', and under 5 yrs warranty. As I still hoping for a 'good will' (just to mention there was no apology or whatsoever from Johnson as if nothing was hapened), a few weeks ago my plumbing was choked (my gut feeling tells me not to call them up as it'll take forever to fix the problem) I called 24 hrs plumber and it was bcoz of the cement and all teh 'rubish' that the contractor threw inside the plumbing that caused the choke. It cost me $250 as it was happened during 2am.

I informd Johnson the next day, and he tried to push this tomhis plumber as he kept saying the plumber will call me directly. My gut feeling was right, until this very moment (2 weeks after I called) NOBODY called.

While, I'm quite satisfied with the workmanship (i guess lots of IDs/contractors in spore can deliver the same quality) BUT vary rare you find a good qualitybof person you trust tomcarry outna renovation work for your HOME. How can someone do a good work if their 'heart' is not in it.

With all the things that was happened I just need to let everyone aware when you want to engage your ID.

Please do your homework right upfront from the very beginning you get the quotation and discuss about you design. When your ID tells you all the 'sweet' stuff you've gotta feel something must be wrong somewhere.

Make sure that the company at least have their own workshop for their furniture work and their own workers for the mansory works NOT just a good offcie cum 'showroom' to 'blindfold' you!!!!

Hi,

We were entertaining a group of close colleagues last night and the comments that we received from them made me felt guilty for not sharing the work of ID to all the followers of Summit Design.

He has helped to turn our flat into an ideal home spacious, warm and modern looking.

As most of ** customers have mentioned, he is a reliable and easy-going person. Most importantly, he is not pushy. From initial discussions, hed assess our ideals/requirements and recommend what are necessary and practical. He is patient in handling and accommodating our changes throughout the progress of work; occasionally reminding us of our budget.

We didnt give him the luxury of time; finalizing quotation, designs, plan for tiles selection, permit applications etc, we depended on him to prompt us. Even the process of renovation, we depended heavily on him to check on the progress of work and to ensure the quality of workmanship. He kept to his progressive and completion targets; constantly kept us posted. Along the way, were quite impressed with his level of service and professionalism. He managed the sub contractors well; the tiling, carpentry, doors and electricity works etc all turned out well, only painting work is not up to expectation.

Some of the little things that he had done, even thought could be small and minor, made us appreciative of him. Even after house hand-over, hed still follow up closely on all the touch-up requests that weve made.

Having a reliable and capable ID has definitely helped to make our renovation easier and less hassles for us.

Hi...Anyone there can share with me designer contacts. I have just bought a resale flat recently, I want some similar concept like this. TIA

Adding one more to the many positive reviews for Summit Design. My ID was ***. Before visiting Summit, me and my wife had actually gotten quotes from about 8-10 interior design firms, and some factors eventually led to us to deciding on Summit Design. We got the best quote, ID(***) was extremely professional and responsive, the promise of after sales service, and of course, the house design.

My renovation:

- Tiling (Whole house)

- Carpentry (Whole house)

- Electrical works

- Plumbing works

- Painting (Whole house)

I will start by reviewing the design process. Both me and wife already had in mind what we wanted, so we told *** our idea, and along the way, he gave us valuable professional advice. After we had decided on the final design, the 3D drawing was prepared in within a week. All credit to *** that the 3D drawing was in fact almost identical to what my renovated house looked like eventually. My parents couldn't even tell the difference.

Tiling was perfect. Carpentry was very good, although we did find some faults, which were easily rectified afterwards. Electrical and plumbing works were very good as well. Paint job was also very well done. During house renovation, slight defects here and there are inevitable, and that's where the after sales service comes in. Whatever defects that we could find were rectified immediately within 1-2 days. And even after we moved in for a few months, nowadays if there are any slight defects that we could notice, you can be sure that *** will be there for you.

Our house was renovated during Oct 2011. As we needed the house urgently, we requested the job to be completed by a month, or latest by 5 weeks. There was no disappointment, as my house was delivered to me in nearly perfect condition within 4 weeks.

It was a real pleasure working with *** during the entire renovation process. Even till this day, he still occasionally sends us texts to catch up and check if everything is good. We really considered ourselves pretty lucky to get such a responsible ID for our first house.
