Yah, the sad thing about old flat is the no-concealable wiring.

But, for the new HDB flat, they can't conceal the wiring too.

The only solution is to use the industrial design piping which can look quite hip, but I guess this is not your theme.

Not true. You can conceal electrical wiring even for old resale flat. But it is going to be more expensive to conceal all wiring and pipes. Some contractors are not willing to do it and they would just say HDB not allowed. My 22 years old flat has concealed wiring and concealed pipes throughout.

hmm.. Most of the ids i met mentioned that old flats not allowed to. AN also mentioned tat it was expensive to do so on top of it being illegal. As we are on a budget,we decided to just let it be. After a while,we wldnt even notice that there s casing i,guess ;)

If your unit present wiring is exposed. Your new wiring has to be exposed too (Under HDB ruling).

Concealed wiring is done secretly. Of course concealed will be slightly expensive than exposed.

Usually concealed will be $30-$50 more per point.

I will have it concealed.

A HDB officer came to my flat to check my renovation and did not say a word of my concealed wiring and concealed water pipe. I guess as long as your contractor knows what he is doing, you should be fine. More importantly, it is my contractor who suggested to me to do all concealed wiring and piping since it is much neater and cleaner. So if my contractor made this suggestion, then I think he must know what it is about because it will affect his rice bowl if it is illegal.
