oda 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 Those green colour plastic bags given out by SembEnviro to collect recyclable stuff indicate that they also collect electrical applicances. We usually put our old newspaper inside the bag and leave it outside our unit on the collection date indicated on the bags. The next collection date is on 27 June. There is a phone number on the bag, 1800-2786135. I also heard a garand guni shouting the other day, but can hear only, cannot see where is he. Thanks TY. Yah...almost forgot about the 'green' men. But must search for my green bag liao...dunno where I've put it. So I'll just wrap the TV with the green plastic bag and leave it outside my door. Hope it won't obstruct anyone passing by...hehe... skyspectrum 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Anyone knows if there is a decent adult chin-up bar? Been looking around this neigbourhood but to no avail? Not too sure if there is one at the CC opposite us. Secondly, in view of save the earth campaign, my wife suggested to have recycling bins (like those in Tokyo), by categories - papers, plastics, glass, etc. I think this is a very practical suggestion, so that we can all help to save the poor ozone layer. Any comments? Thanks.
TYM 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Not trying to pour cold water but even with the many normal rubbish bins provided by TC, there are already rubbish everywhere, what makes you think that people will spare the extra effort to sort out their garbage before disposing. But I do support your suggestion thou.

deepakvali 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 i was jus thinkin about recycling bins yesterday when i wanted to discard my used 5L Dynamo and 1L Downy bottles. running through my mind where to locate a recycling bin, found none in my mind, these bottles ended going down the central chute. i do agree that with recycling bins, that may end up as a goldmine for scavengers who are desperate to make a living. i have nothing against them just what they do disgust me. it is not the scavenging but the act of scavanging and not returning all the trash into the bin but to the floor. thus i think, singaporeans (in most estates) may not have that level of maturity to ensure a sucessful recycling campaign that gets sucess in western and some of the more upmarket estates in island singapore. it would probably work if they offer a 5cent of 10cent kind of rebate if you bring the empty container to your provision store for your next purchase. this reminds me of the good old days in the late 70's and early 80's....wow this makes me sound old

But I do support your suggestion thou. There is an article in today Straits Times forum, narrating about recycling bins in estates. Some of the other estates I been to, already have some bins, differentiated by colour for different products. I ready vote for one to be placed at the common shelter area (where ppl hold their ceremonies). Also, can the relevant authorities look into building one or two exercise stations for working adults like us? E.g. sit up facilities, chin-up bars, etc. Good for us who want to train for IPPT. Thanks.
