But they are harmless. I am more concerned with many ppl loittering around at corridors and void decks. What happens if they now start to appear at our staircases, rubbish area, lift lobbies, etc? Especially those units where ppl can view directly from the common corridors, very prone to potential break-ins and thefts.Solutions?

countrylover 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 We join sign a letter to town council requesting them to install cctv?I don't think it's possible. So far, have not heard of any HDB lifts with CCTV. For condos, yes. Just imagine all HDB residents in S'pore requesting for that, the town councils will be so busy!

Some of the more established towns they have CCTVs.If security is a main concern, the benefits definitely weigh above the costs of installing CCTV.Good idea that we sign a letter to TC. armani 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 in actual fact, there are lifts with CCTVs installed. one of them that i know of is those studio flats beside braddel mrt. our lifts are designed in such a way that cctv can be installed. just look up the next time you take the lift. you'll see that there's circular plates at the corners. these's opening are there so that cctv camera can be installed. for braddel's studio flats. they have the tv mounted on the lift lobby at ground floor. so whoever is inside will be captured on the cctv screen. therefore it's possible to hv cctv installed but first there muz be sufficient reason to support this need

vineyard 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) From what I learnt previously, there's alot of ways to prevent/avoid a hostile situation with suspicious people:1. If its too late to get out of the lift, quickly press the next level to get out.2. If the guy is going to the same level as you, then press a different LOWER level and get out.3. For those suspicious people who do not make any moves, he is probably scared. To prevent them from gathering up their courage, turn around and face them directly, look at them in the eyes and firmly ask for something inconspicious, eg ask for the time, which floor, etc. This will confuse and make them incoherent.1st and 2nd method is of course useful and its something that has to be reminded to everyone's wife/gf to do.As for the 3rd method it is good too if your wife/gf is the "fierce" type whom can look into a person's eye without blinking or looking away. Else she should better shout out "gui tiam liao?" or "gui lao?" if not, and she just say "what time huh?" or "which floor you going" then it maybe just a GO signal to the suspect.I am definitely going for the CCTV idea.. or better still a CCTV with a link to the NPP for recording.. else they will be doing.........(i duno what)........... anyway. just give them some job and give use some peace... Plus it should not be used for EVERY suspicious character; you got to judge if the joker is really getting the jittery or seasoned robber waiting for the right moment. In this case concerned, the joker had all the ingredients in place for him to act, but he did not, thus goes to show that he is either having the 'to-do-or-not-to-do' thoughts, or he is really not a criminal at all.Nevertheless, this method had been proven by several criminal psychologists worldwide to be very efficient in causing confusion, ie doing something that they would not expect you to do. The robber would expects you to be frightened, try to escape, etc but when you suddenly ask a silly question this way, they would be thrown off-tangent and think that their plan had foiled. As for the CCTV to be linked to the NPP, well, what can I say; our police today seemed to be very enthusiastic in 'delegating' their duties to commercial outfits (summons), grassroots (community work), private litigation (assaults), insurance companies (minor road accidents), etc. Do you think they would pleased to carry the burden of watching your neighbourhood for you? This CCTV initiative would probably be arrowed to the RC instead, and they will have a hard time trying to get funds from the respective sources if there are no crime registered (yet) at our estate. The Guru 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 When encounter with this senario, what i suggest is...Do not press the floor buttons first... ask him which floor he going, then you can press for him... if still don't feel safe, press the lowest possible floor... he will not know which floor you stay too... If taking the high level lifts, it will take less than 30 seconds to reach level 21... i guess will be too short a time for him to strike...
thesimfarm 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 My wife was being "followed" by a guy last nite. On her way back home she saw this guy walking away from blk 91 but he made a U-turn back to blk 91 when he saw my wife. My wife then went to open the letterbox. it was about 1030pm at nite so logically there shd be at least one lift standby at 1st floor. but the wierd thing is that the lift just arrive in time when my wife was walking towards the lift lobby after opening the letterbox. then my wife walked into the lift first and the guy followed into the lift too(my wife shd have walked out of the lift and take the next lift). And upon entering the lift, he actually waited for my wife to press the level. And guess wat.... he's also going to the same floor as my wife. when the lift door open at the destinated floor he walked out of the lift first and made a right turn. my wife made a left turn and stop at the corridor near the lift to see where he's going. then that guy turn right and stop at the first unit after making the right turn and u-turn back to the lift and took the lift down. Seems like he's trying to see which unit my wife is actually staying at. This guy muz be up to no good but perhaps has no guts or opportunity to strike. Else who in the world will take a lift up only to take the same lift down from where he came from. unless he's nuts or trying to commit crimes. Not very good at describing so try to comprehend wat i'm trying to say. Here is the description of that guy.Chinese male ard mid-twenties, thin and slightly tanned. Wearing a long sports bottom and carries a badminton racket with a bag.Let's keep a look-out for this guy to prevent crimes from happening. Shall escort my wife next time she comes home after me.So everyone be VERY CAREFUL k?Just an interesting thought, normally guy with sport equipment seldom gone bad, maybe he had a crush on your wife? heh heh.... just a thought only.... but yes, i agree with the careful part. TYM 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Yes, its time for THUM (Tanglin Halt Usual Meetup) again!!Those who are not sure of the details, here it is:When: Every Saturday, 3pm onwardsWhere: Coffeeshop @ Blk 46-1 Tanglin Halt Road (behind the rubbish dump on the left of the open carpark opposite our blocks)Map: http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel...519&level=5(Pl note that the map is not accurate; it shows that our flats are squeezed up until Blk 51 only, where it actually should have stretched over to the open carpark behind the police post)Anybody at THUM last sat? Walked pass the coffeeshop with my baby nephew at abt 4pm but did not see any familiar faces.

The elders are the usual victims.
