8 feet granite top need to cut into two pieces

I am half way complete my kitchen renovation. My contractor said my 8 feet long granite kitchen top need to cut into 2 pieces as hdb lift cannot enter. 

Is that true ? I suspect it is the type of granite left small pieces .so, they want to salvage left over. Pls advice
