My New Love Nest in Yishun

Recommended Posts

After 5 years living at Jade Spring Yishun,  I decided to move to a bigger flat at Yishun too. So I bought a Resale 5I at Blk 310. This house is like a love at the first sight. I totally fall in love with the huge living room. Finally on the 22 June 2016, I got the key for my new home. Before all that, I am gonna share my journey of renovating my new nest. Starting from Hunting of Interior Designer

Hunting of IDs: -

Truthfully, I had a bad experience with my previous ID back when I am renovating my very first home. After so much thought, I decided to go for ID and gave them another chance to proof their capability. At the start, I search for IDs at facebook Looking every respective interior designer firm portfolio. Since I do not have plenty of time to survey for more IDs, I decided to survey these 4 interior designer firm based on Recommendation.

These are the 4 Interior Designer -

1) Renozone Interior

2) Interior Doctor

3) NID Interior

4) * Interior

I go all the 4 ID firm to ask for quotation. During the confirmation of buying the flat, roughly I have the idea of renovating my home. The plus point of the previous home is Living Room Homogeneous Tiles which are still in good condition and the False Ceiling. Unfortunately majority of the house required to do major renovation. Especially the both toilets and the Kitchen.

What I want to do during my Renovation?

1) Full Renovation of Both Toilet and Kitchen

2) Hack Through the Kitchen and Living Room and install Glass Panel for see through

3) Change the whole house window, Grilles and doors including main door and main gate( very very old fashioned gate and door :1980s)

4) Feature Wall with TV console

5) Display cum Shoe Cabinet

6) Full Height Mirror **** Room

7) Full Height Wardrobe with TV console at Master Bedroom

8) Full Height Wardrobe at Kid Bedroom

9) 4 in 1 inverter Aircon especially the Living Room

Basically my budget for all these are 50k. I went all the 4 IDs to seek for the quotation with these kind of renovation works. I went to NID Interior first. During the first meet up, I am very impressed with the ID. He is very patient and knowledgeable in this field. Basically he knew what I want. After leaving the NID Interior , I waited a week for the quotation. I am so excited and really wanted to set my heart to NID Interior. However, my heart totally sank when the moment I received the quotation. A whopping 67k renovation. 5k on the hacking of the kitchen and toilet. I was totally disappointed. At the same time, during the wait for the 1st quotation, I went to Renozone Interior. This is the only ID firm that reply to my application at Renotalk. So I decided to give a chance to this ID firm. The quotation of the this ID firm gave me is quite accommodating. 57k in total.

Subsequently, I did went to the * Interior which turned me off with the GST where the rest of the IDs do not have. So lastly, I decided on Interior Doctor as my ID. I am quite impressed with a tag team interior designer. Instead of 1 ID, I have 2 to communicate during the renovation. I am quite impressed with the IDs and their portfolio. They offered me with the lowest quotation of 55k for the whole renovation. I did made slight changes to the full renovation of the toilet. Instead of hacking, I did overlay. So I did save some cost there.

Initially I wanted to start the renovation immediately after the handing over of keys, due to Hari Raya and Puasa month, I decided to start the renovation on 11 July instead. Up to date, the renovation is currently at the 4th week.

Hello Kamal, welcome to Renotalk. Your 5I flat is quite unique which will provide design challenges as well as opportunities. What is the floor area?

I noticed there is an entrance to access your main door. Is it a private access area?

If you hack away the study room, you are going to have a very huge squarish living room!
