Chunky Monkey 2 Report post Posted June 9, 2007 Just want to give everyone a heads up.There is a new hanging rod that has a fluorescent light embedded inside its aluminium casing, and you can choose between a rod with motion sensor or a rod with a rocker switch. It's by a German company called Hettich. And I believe a couple of wardrobe designers use Hettich. One such company is Kitchen Habits on Amoy Street. http://www.kitchenhabits.sg/. Hettich is an alternative to Blum. They both look so alike.Once I work out how many rows of hanging rods I need vis-a-vis drawers and open shelving, I will order this hanging rod for my wardrobe designer to use. Don't ask me how much because I don't know yet. I have not even asked for pricing.
lawry 3 Report post Posted June 9, 2007 You NEED a light if you are doing WIW ..Not to mention night time, even during day time, it's all enclosed, it's still quite dark inside. Almost like a little room by itself.
TYM 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 A WIW will need its own lights, if not you will be walking into a dark room at night.
Chunky Monkey 2 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 As a rule of thumb, I think it's true that a ceiling light is necessary in a WiW. But I would have to add that it all depends on the configuration of the wardrobe, and whether if there is any natural light source. The embedded light hanging rods are actually very bright. 11W. My wardrobe space is 6m (width) x 1.2m depth by 3.3m height. I can actually have a WiW but I am going to make it a reach-in-wardrobe with a sliding door, so that I can dress comfortably outside of this space, and borrow the light from the bedroom. I can still "walk-in" because of the double depth that I have.I was initially quite hung up about having a WiW as a trophy feature of my MBR. And it's only through alot of deliberation with my DH that I come to realise that he is right. If I enclose my wardrobe area into a typical WiW, it will not only be very dark, I will have to consider a separate aircon fancoil inside there (or die of heat and dankness), and also install a dehumidifier.
