My reno is coming to an end... This week it will be the touch up and finishing up of carpentry and electrical works. And also patching up the parquet because I hack off the wardrobe of 1 bedroom to build a bigger wardrobe. ID told me the parquet for all bedrooms will be sand and vanished because there are some scratches during the installation of carpentry, which is unavoidable.

Next week, my furnitures will arrive. Initially, I unintentionally chose an auspicious date for the furniture to be sent. But the govt deemed that the date is so auspicious that election has to take place on that day 😂. So delivery will take place the day before.

Now that my reno is almost over, we're in the process of talking to curtain vendors.... to my surprise, the price difference between different vendors can be quite big. We'll be wraping up with the last 2 vendors this sat. Curtain shopping can be quite interesting. Will share more after that...

I'll be taking pics tomorrow on the completed reno....

Today I like to share about my experience when meeting curtain vendors.... Initially, I don't know what budget to set aside for curtains, so I asked my colleague who recently shifted to her new home. Her new home is 4 bedroom and her curtain cost about $2k. So I told myself, if the curtain of her 4 bedder cost $2k, mine should not be more than that. That's how I derive my budget for curtains...

When my ID told me I should start searching for curtains, I asked her to recommend her curtain vendor and at the same time advise me what colors to choose. Although at the back of my mind, grey should be the color...

What we are doing will be day and night curtains for living, TV room and master bedroom. PVC blinds for study/wardrobe room. And roller blind for kitchen.

1. Vendor recommended by ID (for this vendor, I would not want to reveal his company, no point...)

He brought some fabrics, we found the fabrics we like. But when he shared the quote, I must admit, I was shocked. Thoughts come into my mind if my $2k budget is realistic... His quote is $3800. We immediately told him, it's out of our budget of $2k. He said its this price because we chose the expensive fabric. He can bring the less expensive ones, but the price will still be above our budget. When pressed for the estimate cost of the less expensive fabrics, he said that it'll be around $2.6k.

2. This vendor is quite aggressive in advertising in the Facebook vendor site for my development. Their showroom is in Balestier.

They have quite a lot of fabrics. But when come to grey shades, their choices are limited. I chose the ones that I might want and the quote came out to $2400. Very close to my budget. I was tempted to ask for more discount and if they can meet my budget, then sign with them. But I told myself not to rush, anyway I'm suppose to meet a few more. Fortunately, I did that because when I research on their company online, they have mixed reviews, so I decided not to go with them.

3. After meeting the second vendor, I went to MGL. They are one of the shops that was high in my shortlist but some people say they are ex, some say their price are reasonable.

What impressed me was, I was like in a candy shop when I was at their showroom. They have sooooo many fabrics, the staff who served me took different shades and design of grey fabrics to show me... I was thinking to myself, enough already too many already...This is the pic of the fabrics...

With so many fabrics to choose from, I definitely found what I like. The quote came out to be $2550 after discount. They do give discount but there's a limit they can give. But at $2550 from a good name vendor, they are very attractively prices as compared to the above 2.

4. J&R Curtain (they are one of the advertiser in renotalk)

They operate from a small shop, but the boss, Joyce is a nice lady. She took time to show me the fabrics. I managed to find the fabrics I like and the quote came to $2600. Joyce said that she may be able to reduce more, but must do site survey to confirm measurement first. I decided to KIV until I met the final 2.

5. This vendor is a recommendation from a fellow forummer

The fabrics he brought are very limited, its just too little to find something we like. After 10mins, we politely told him, we don't like the fabrics. So no quote from him.

6. The famous Vincent that many people from renotalk engaged

Getting an apt from him was not instantaneous like other vendors, must whatsapp him then after about 4-5 days, he came back with appt time... When he came to my place, I saw that he has 2 handful of fabrics, I was thinking... Does he have the fabrics we want? Fortunately, he has... We picked the same fabrics as the 1st vendor we met. Vincent is very experience... When he was measuring, he told me my living room floor not level, one area is 0.5 inch shorter than another area... Can u imagine, his quote is half of the 1st vendor quote with the same night curtain fabrics. For day curtain, I prefer the one from the 1st vendor. But for the price, I'm willing to forgo my preferred day curtain. But Vincent very upfront told us that because he has a lot of orders, he may not be able to deliver before we are suppose to shift in, which is on 26 Sept. He said, he will try his best. Well, our choice is clear, we engaged Vincent on the spot.

These are the fabrics we chose...
