Chopps 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2015 (edited) It has been quite an adventure for our home searching. We were quite lucky to have found an unit that we liked and offer on the night itself, but our happiness was short lived as that B****** played us out after sitting on it for a week and decided he wanted a higher offer! Long story short, our agent was fired and we went on our merry search for another unit without an agent. Eventually found an unit that is within our budget and here we are "blogging" about it!! The cheapo me has been stalking the renotalk and collecting contacts and we gotten back about 10 quotations to digest. Due to budget constraints, were only looking at contractors as we are pretty clear of what we want and can have. Met with 4 contractors eventually and as follows:Contractor J & E: I wanted them as soon as I saw lovescandi's blog. Alas, this joker E came alone was nearly 1 hour late for the measurements and the quotation which came back was freaking high and incorrect! Dropped! Cannot stand punctuality issues and non response via messages as well. Contractor P: Very nice uncle, professional and knowledge. Not chosen due to budget as it was slightly higher than V & J. Contractor V: Easy going and everything is negotiable as long as you dare to ask. Did check out one of his almost completed unit, workmanship is pretty good! Felt bad for not choosing him though.. But he is still highly recommended for people who are looking for a honest contractor.Contractor J: Workmanship is decent and he is recommended by an aunty. We were given abit of discount due to this connection and we grabbed the offer! Here's the cheapos' Pre reno house. Edited June 4, 2015 by Chopps
Chopps 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2015 Our contractor J has been super efficient with reno and I liked that he and his site coordinator has been very prompt in replying our messages and endless questions. They provided us with updates of the sites regularly and of coz with "promptness" comes with a price.. Their payment chaser is super on the ball.. But our take is, as long as work is done properly we will pay la.We were given a breakdown of the estimated reno schedule and they have followed pretty closely until now.. Electrical works still in progress now and plastering & painting not done yet. But heng, pessimistic cheapo me did not believe that handover could be by 20 June, as works for our home is super major as everything gotten go and hacked away. Thus with delays now, am still ok with it.11/5 to 14/5 - hacking15/5 to 26/05 - Tiling works/ window works27/5 - Measure carpentry/ doors27/5 to 30/05 - Electrical/ aircon/ plumbing works01/6 to 03/06 - Painting works04/6 to 13/06 - carpentry installation15/6 to 17/6 - install sanitary and balance item18/6 to 19/6 -Cleaning20/6 - HandoverHack Away Pics
Chopps 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2015 Our tiling has been completed and I must say the tiler has done a pretty good job! However am still pending rectification from him for some hollow tiles found. However we are facing a leaking problem coming from our upstairs neighbours' mbr toilet. HDB has checked our unit and we are keeping our fingers crossed that upstairs people will be willing to fix the problem. Is there anything that we can do if the neighbours refuses to fix the problem?
