Fixed Glass Panel Safety

Hi,

Any expert around can comment if this is safe?

My ID installed a fixed panel sitting on top of quartz top, doesn't look like the u channels are securing the glass.

The picture showing the top edge is not so clear but I believe there is silicon in the U channel holding the glass. The bottom is fine.

Shower screen are normally held this way too.

But I think they cut the glass height too short. I would think more of the top should be inside the U channel.

As long as you don't push hard on the glass, it'll be safe.

I agree that the photos are not showing the necessary detail; for example, couldn't tell the span of the glass panel etc.

But for a new installation, I would reject it because the glass is obviously not cut to fit. In order words, either the installation is not properly measured, or the glass is not cut to measure. There is no reason why an installer should leave the glass so short.

Also, how are the u-channel brackets secured to the quartz top and false ceiling (I presumed)? It seems to be a thick piece of glass and therefore is heavy, so the glass is as secured as the security of the brackets.

If the contractor or ID were to insist that there is nothing wrong, I would ask him to apply force to the glass panel to test. I would rather it breaks loose now than when everybody has moved into the house after the renovation.
