The layouts may be similar but the proportions are different. Your kitchen is designed to be almost half a metre longer but narrower than mine. I think it's not much use taking measurements at the HDB gallery because of these differences in designed layout. Anyway how did you do your approximations? I'm using a home design software which is able to use HDB's floor plan as template to create my modeling, but missing the correct wall thickness as HDB already stated that wall thickness in not shown to scale on the FP.

Hi stream.. If you don't mind sharing, can let me know what home design software you are using?

It is available for free to use in online?

Thanks.

I'm using the free s/w Sweet Home 3D. You can google and download. It was quite easy enough to figure out how to use on my own, but there are Youtube tutorials available too. After creating the apartment off the HDB floor plan, it was fun trying different layouts for the furniture. I could measure the width of walkways and make sure I'm comfortable moving around. It also provides 3D view which you can rotate and view from different angles. Below is sample of what you can do. Once I have the keys, I  can quickly update the dimensions to the actual figures.

But there is another free s/w called Sketchup. I think it's more powerful and sophisticated and can produce plans/3D renderings close to what IDs produce; but it's more difficult to learn. I'm just starting to look at the youtube tutorials. However, for space planning purposes, Sweet Home 3D is good enough.

Welcome Stream! :dancingqueen:

I guess you will be disappointed cos I understand that only me have collected keys so far and mine is a different set up as yours.

The layout for the bathroom is similar although the dimensions are different. I understand you're sealing one entrance which is what I plan to do as per my above post. In my case, I need to check with contractor whether it is possible to rotate the WC 90 degrees (and build a half-ledge behind as it's too far from the wall) otherwise the glass panel will reach the front edge of the WC.  But after rotating, maybe one side of the WC will be too close to the wall. So I may have to abort the whole idea. (After building literally hundreds of thousands of apartments, you would think HDB already learned how to design a proper bathroom layout. But maybe that's asking TOO MUCH! )

I know our toilet dimensions are different. But I would think you've the same problem too? Or are you doing the L beside the wash basin, in which case do you have enough space to walk between the L-screen and WC to get to the wash basin?

Anyway I was at the showflat again at HDB. I noticed there's only 1 drainage hole in the toilet. SERIOUSLY!? :bangwall:

Does your unit come with two?

Rotation of WC - can be done but quite hassle and expensive.  the piping can be quite a sore to the eyes too.

I have decided not to seal the doors of the bathroom doors. Cos after viewing the actual unit, I felt that my kitchen is quite dark.  If I seal the door, it will be darker. What I planned to do is to install a slanted sliding glass shower screen instead, that divides the bathroom to 2 halves with WC in 1 and shower + basin in another.  ID has confirmed this is possible and probably a better way if I insists on dry and wet shower areas.  Of cos the cons is that my basin will be wet after shower but I can accept that.

And yes, there is only 1 drainage in the bathroom.  ID propose to create an opening at the shower kerb for water to flow from WC to shower area when washing the WC area.

About the piping, yes that's a good point. Will have to run a single (?) water pipe to feed the rotated WC. It will be exposed but I'll just have to live with it. After turning the WC, my idea is that it is still aligned with the original sewage hole in the floor. What other hassles I need to consider? Cost is less of an issue for me as long as I end up getting a decent layout with wet/dry areas. Plus I can run my built-in wardrobe on the entire length of that side of the bedroom. :P

Do you have pic of your proposed layout. Maybe I can consider that too :)

I think it is quite challenging for the WC cos it the sewerage hole is quite towards the center.

This is what I described as the slanted shower screen.

Hi mmoh,

I see from your pic you don't have to do a slanted one, just relocated the sink closer to the bottom wall and you can have a right angled shower screen. I see the drain pipe below sink is within the straight shower screen allowance, I did the same thing to my toilet to get wet and dry, I moved sink closer to bottom black wall. But I have 3 drainage hole in my toilet, wonder how come you all only get 1.

Hi Andrew

Noted, will discuss with ID on which one is better.  Dunno, only got 1 at the shower area. >_<

hi all!  i am new!

many great ideas here! really useful and grateful!

have learned many things in this thread.

now i have to 'tankuku'  till 2020 to get my type1 unit in West Quarry. but like many others, too excited to explore ideas for future reno. haha.

i chose type1 instead of type 2 coz i like higher floors. last tuesday during my selection, all high-floor units for type 2 were grabbed.  :( bopian.

but i feel that albeit the smallness of type 1, there r many good things about being small too. first of all, i do not need to think about whether to seal one of the toilet doors :)

secondly, space is limited, so cannot hoard things. good habit. :)

thirdly, not many walls can hang things - save carpentry $$ :)

keep things simple. less is more. :)

i think my future unit theme will be minimalist.

u very +ve! lol! good!

the newer model only have 1 door in the bathroom and open to the living room so giving more space to the bedroom, which I feel is good although some do not like the idea of having a bathroom door in the living room.

can share you floorplan here?
