Space Planning Dilemma!

Recommended Posts

Good day to all reno-talkers,

Apologies for my bad command of english and explanation!

As i'll be getting my keys to my BTO in 2months time, I'm facing this dilemma as to whether it is feasible to remove my windows and doors at the back of my kitchen linking to my service yard. I will be putting a sliding glass window at my service yard there where in event of heavy rain, my washing machine would be protected from it. I would also be hacking a wall in between my kitchen and dinning area (my kitchen would be open up) thus was wondering whether would my living room be cold enough when i switch on the aircon as that aircon in the living room would be needed to cool both my kitchen, service yard and living room. Thoughts and feedback are greatly appreciated!

Thank you and have a good day!

Hi Kerlon,

You can do a simple calculation of cooling load for your sizing of air-con:-

Living room cooling load: 40W/m2

Kitchen (when not in use): 40W/m2

Kitchen (when in use): 95W/m2

Service yard: 20W/m2

You can multiply with your floor area of the individual area to get your total cooling load.

after which, check your air-con cooling capacity to match with your calculated cooling load.
