Hi! I'm new to the forum. I saw your pic of the marble flooring and its kinda similar to mine- except I think mine is uglier. I just got a resale flat and now looking out for IDs/ contractors. Can I know if you did hack your flooring coz I want to do that but I know it will cost a lot...:P

I'll most probably hack off and retile with homo or lay laminate depending on budget. To laminate living/dinning, future & masterbed room except 2 bedrooms is about 3k (Supreme), as for homo I have yet to get a quote.

Ya i am also thinking of just laminating all bedrooms and hack living & dining area. I was told toilets & kitchens need to hack and cannot overlay if flat is too old coz of the waterproofing thingy.. dunno how true is that?

How old is your flat?

I was told a different story, they encourage me to overlay kitchen and toilet tiles. They claim that as long as there is no hollow tiles or damaged tiles, they'll just do water proofing before the overlay.

So from what I know it's like got 2 layers of water proofing if you overlay (1 old, 1 new).

The above statement is my 2 cents, I'm a green horn afterall so experts please advise.

My flat is abt 18 yrs old.. I met up wif a few IDs so some say can overlay some say cannot so I dunno which one to believe. Those that say cannot is afraid that the old tiles alr not secured - i mean for toilet walls now, so best is to hack. Any expert advice?

You can ask HDB Branch office for advice. You just need to tell them your current situation and ask them does HDB regulations allows you to hack the toilet tiles. If the answer is no, then you only have 1 choice - overlay. If yes, then you have to really ask expert advice.

Touch wood if anything happens to the tiles underneath how long will u be able to know by then?

Also that when overlay the tiles it will not be 100% tiles are not hollow after overlaying, when that happens who to blame?

If really on the budget then dont do too much capentry work first. Concentrate on tiles first and kitchen cabinet. the rest can be done up slowly. Dont make urself so tight and want to save on wherethe want to overlay or not. If really anything happens we willl need to burn a big hole in the pocket again not worth it. :dunno:

Tks...Ya maybe will give them call to check tho I doubt they will commit whether can hack or not. :dancingqueen:

Devilaz,

The only capentery I think I will have will be for kitchen cabinets and wardrobes for MBR. Quite minimal already right?
