ElsaAnna 2 Report post Posted October 29, 2014 Recently we are faced with lots of difficulty deciding what to do with our display cabinet as my MIL keep mentioning that glass is really dangerous and she hope that we are not doing much glass related stuff in our house..But our display cabinet as the partition between our living room and study area is of entire glass panel for the top half of the cabinet..Is it really that dangerous..questions keep popping in our mind..will it suddenly shatter and hurt people?? if there are kids..will they throw something accidentally and smash the glass?? Is tampered glass really safer?? Gosh..all these are torturing us for weeks...Does anyone of you have such concerns with glass display cabinet??Anyway to ease our mind and my MIL, we decided to change the display cabinet into this, which is without any glass panel. Hope it will look good..what do you all think??I think this looks great! and i do agree that glass can be quite dangerous especially if you have kids around. but perhaps tempered glass is a good consideration? hazelline 6 Report post Posted October 30, 2014 Hihi ElsaAnna..the drawings done by my hub..haha it looks very tough..I don't think I can do it too haha..Anyway we look for contractors instead of IDs hoping to save some cost..because we are on really tight budget..anyway I pm you the contacts le..I will still worry if tempered glass is used..haha so there's too much 'what if' in my head..so may as well change our initial design..although I worry if this cabinet will make my living rm look too small or dark...(initially wanted glass as it allow more light and will make the area look spacious)
Doris Chin 4 Report post Posted October 31, 2014 The cabinet without glass will probably collect lots of dust, will require quite a lot of cleaning regularly

hazelline 6 Report post Posted November 3, 2014 Recently, we bought quite a number of stuff..places like IMM, Sungei Kadut, Parkmall, Comfort Designs, Castlery, Like that One, Furniture Mall and IFC are some places we went to look for our furnitures..its really very tough to look for the right shade, right size and all for our house when there are no ID to consult (people who are very busy or really want to save trouble, its better to choose ID than contractor). We were first looking for our dining table (6 seater) as its a pretty large piece and we hope to get something we like..both of us feel that its better to get solid wood than MDF so the search for solid wood dining set went on..as our budget is really really low, its very challenging to find something we like and of solid wood and is cheap..These are some tables that we shortlisted..These 2 solid wood dining tables are from Scanteak..looks really pretty and stable..but super super ex..as we wanted to buy a set..and a set like this will easily cost 2000plus..so we have to drop this..This one has pretty cool wood grain..its from submit house..same..too ex..around 2000plus for whole set alsoThis one is from Ikea..also solid wood and the whole feel is just sooo nice and pretty and cheap..but hub say its abit light and unstable..so we have to forgo this..sighh.. hazelline 6 Report post Posted November 3, 2014 (continued)This one is from Picket and Rail..we kinda like this as the chairs come with cushion and the color is not really dark walnut..they sell it as a set and its really worthwhile to have 6+1 at this price... (eventually we bought this..the deal is too attractive to us..haha)This table is from Barang Barang..the color is a little too dark for our liking and its quite ex..around 2000plus for the whole set..This one is from Comfort Design..its super pretty and cheap..everything is good for this..but the table is a little small...if they sell in bigger size, I would have bought this.. hazelline 6 Report post Posted November 3, 2014 We also went to buy our hob and hood and sink and mixer tap from Hoe Kee (hob and hood slightly cheaper at Megastore but we just want to lump all the delivery together so bought at Hoe Kee)We got Tecno Hob and Hood package and I choose 2 burner as I think I cant really multitask to much when cooking..so 2 is sufficient..haha..hub like the glass version so we took sparkling black glass surface. The Hood is the normal slimline one..We took the Blanco stainless steel sink Naya 9 (credit the photo to some fellow reno talker) but I didnt choose the Blanco mixer..its a little too ex..so we change to another normal mixer.. hazelline 6 Report post Posted November 5, 2014 I went to check up on my house painting( for our bedrooms) yesterday and was a little in shock as the color didnt turn out to be the color we like to have..I guess selecting from the color swatch really is abit different when its painted on the wall..we wanted lighter shades but now the color is more rich on the wall..However this is the color we chose from the color swatch and I think if we were to re-paint, there will be additional cost..sigh...
Harriette 42 Report post Posted November 5, 2014 Hi, you can paste 3M safety film on the glass. So even if the glass shatters, the 3M film will hold it in place. The film is "invisible". I have them on my balcony glass doors. Recently we are faced with lots of difficulty deciding what to do with our display cabinet as my MIL keep mentioning that glass is really dangerous and she hope that we are not doing much glass related stuff in our house..But our display cabinet as the partition between our living room and study area is of entire glass panel for the top half of the cabinet..Is it really that dangerous..questions keep popping in our mind..will it suddenly shatter and hurt people?? if there are kids..will they throw something accidentally and smash the glass??
