hazelline 6 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Finally we are getting our keys for our new home in an area that we are not too familiar with but hopefully will be great for us!We actually look for ID or Contractor only after getting our keys and after viewing our new home..so we kinda started our reno after a month from taking the keys..So here is our floor plan..a typical 5-Room BTO...Both Hub and I like wood for our furnitures and we both love the wood grain feel so we decided that it should be the main focus in our home..Hub also dislike dark colours as he feel mosquito always hide in dark places haha...So we decided that there should be lots of white in our home...after thinking through which theme should we pick..we thought that Scandinavian is the way to go...which is very popular and common now..but I think as long as both of us love it, it doesnt matter if its too commonWe also have a rough idea on what we wanted for the house..nothing too complicated as my Hub is a super practical person..haha..so we decided to look for contractors instead of IDs. I know IDs will recommend really pretty and cool stuff for the house..but we are on really tight budget and we kinda know what we want thus we went ahead to look for quotations from contractors instead of IDs.We took 3 quotations and also making reference to some of our friend's quotations before deciding on the ONE!! (Pray hard it will be a good one) Edited October 17, 2014 by hazelline

hazelline 6 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 So for our home we told our contractors the things we wanted as follow:L box for living, dining, study area, corridor and foyer as we wanted to have downlights at these area (no cove lights as we scared alot of insects or dirt will be trapped there..ewwww)Homogeneous tiles for whole flat (wanted marble initially but **** **** ex haha...so give up the idea)Brickwall for living room..this is what I love(lucky Hub allow me to have this) although its quite expensive and very very common nowadays..Not much to be done in our toilets except the sliding glass door and cabinet for MBR toiletKitchen cabinets top and bottom for one side and bottom only for the other side with iQuartzBi-fold door at entrance to Kitchen (Hub worry the wastage of aircon if our kitchen is open de)Full ht display cabinet to be the separator for our living and study areaFull ht shoe cabinet at foyerL-shape wardrobe at MBRNormal wardrobe at BR 2So for our place there are no hacking as we didnt have the budget..and one thing about Contractors..they cant provide you with 3D drawings..so you have to visually imagine what is suitable and what is not..abit tough when you are getting your furnitures..which I am having difficulty now haha...Jero..I will pm you the contacts.. hazelline 6 Report post Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) These are the photos of our flat..lucky for us that our living room is facing a park..so we wont be too near any buildings.. These are my toilets..MBR toilet still quite spacious..but the common toilet abit narrow..The kitchen really very small as the store room door is in the kitchen..hated this as as I cant do much cabinets but there are pros as well..because alot of my friends mention that at least its not in the living room..else it will look super ugly and they need to think of ways to hide it.. hazelline 6 Report post Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) Now will be the installation of aircon..we are choosing mitsubishi starmex system 4 ..initially we wanted to go gain city..but we found out that my Hub's cousin able to give a cheaper rate plus he will use the thicker insulation tube..gain city still need to top up money for the thicker ones..but downside is need to pay cash la..cannot earn credit card points haha...Then his cousin mentioned that as we are using thicker insulation tube, we will have 2 aircon trunking in our MBR...abit ugly..but I think really no choice..he even prove it to us that he couldnt squeeze all the tubes into 1 trunking..haha..(so effort la..)Oh and he doesnt charge us extra for 2 times of installation as we wanted to only fix up the aircon only after painting..gain city need to charge $80plus i think..for the 2nd time.. jabbathehutt 3 Report post Posted October 23, 2014 Consider keeping the wall behind the tv free from extreme patterns and grids for a cleaner feel. Brick wall may be too elaborated and harsh, esp reddish tint.
hazelline 6 Report post Posted October 29, 2014 Hihi..thank you for your feedback..but we really like the brick wall feel haha..but its not gonna be so much reddish tint on them..hopefully the outcome will be nicer in real life..will update that later!! hazelline 6 Report post Posted October 29, 2014 I kinda like the feel from these photosBut the difference is that our flooring will be homogeneous tiles and we will have more wood furniture to have contrast with the flooring which is of a lighter shade.Currently our flooring are completed as shown below before they cover up with the cupboard protectionAnd this is the preparation for the brick wall and also the half completed wall by the contractor..hopefully it will turn out well.. hazelline 6 Report post Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) Recently we are faced with lots of difficulty deciding what to do with our display cabinet as my MIL keep mentioning that glass is really dangerous and she hope that we are not doing much glass related stuff in our house..But our display cabinet as the partition between our living room and study area is of entire glass panel for the top half of the cabinet..Is it really that dangerous..questions keep popping in our mind..will it suddenly shatter and hurt people?? if there are kids..will they throw something accidentally and smash the glass?? Is tampered glass really safer?? Gosh..all these are torturing us for weeks...Does anyone of you have such concerns with glass display cabinet??Anyway to ease our mind and my MIL, we decided to change the display cabinet into this, which is without any glass panel. Hope it will look good..what do you all think?? Edited October 29, 2014 by hazelline
