The Process Of Transforming An Old 5Rm Hdb @ Bukit Purmei To Our Dream Home!

Hi ma5quer, these are originally from Crate and Barrel. I believe they still sell these two pieces. The reason why I custom made them is because I really like the designs but the dimension cannot work for me. The first table is of a study table size but I am planning to use it for dining. The coffee table is too short horizontally for my sofa/living room. My sofa is 3m and this is only around 1.5m if i am not wrong.

If what crate and barrel is selling works for you in terms of dimension, you should consider getting from them instead because it is slightly more expensive to custom order them.

I got a carpenter from Malaysia to do it for me. He owns a wood factory. If you are keen I can pass you the contact ^^

Honestly, if given a choice I would choose new flats. Nowadays, the btos are very pretty.. like condo in fact. Those with full length windows especially. Smaller area means less area to renovate. I am someone happy living in a studio so I guess spacious living isnt as tempting for me as for others ;)

Cleaning up is easier for a smaller area too!

Hey thanks for sharing! Will probably drop by C&B to take a look. Am looking for alternatives to a suar wood dining table which we are eyeing but still trying to convince ourselves to pay that amount!

As for the btos, think it's really dependent which project you go for. I wouldn't term mine as pretty for sure...more like a failed attempt at looking like premium..muahaha. I'm also an advocate of smaller spaces (less areas to clean!) but some tight spaces really get to you at times..especially now when I'm looking at my ID's proposed layout, with the WC flanked by vanity cabinet & half shower screen on the sides..leaving only 600-700mm space for WC area.. imagine feeling claustrophobic while doing business...

Loving your 3Ds btw! Looking forward to see the final product! Have a smooth reno journey! :good:

Suar wood dining table....! so pretty... but so expensive too :notti:

Care to share where and how much?

Yeah, I cannot stand tiny bathrooms too. The two things I feel really sian about HDB is the toilet and the non full length windows.

Even after combining the storeroom into part of the MBR toilet, I still feel its too small because the extension, though great to have, it doesnt improve the shower area which is super crammed. I had difficulties buying the toilet bowl because of the limited space there too.

I also wish that the window in the toilets can be bigger for ventilation. :curse:

Maybe you can use bigger mirrors to open up the space and go for lighter color tiles to reduce the claustrophobic feeling :)

Will you be starting a thread here soon? Keen to look at your ID's proposed layout and your bto unit!

No prob with sharing! We are eyeing suar table from arthur zaaro. They have a tiered pricing dependent on the length. They recently increased their prices in sep so -it cost ard $3K + for a 1.7-1.8m table with black metal legs (this is additional charge)? There appears to be lower cost options around but as we are not experts in sussing out wood quality, thought would be better to go with a more reputable firm.

Yah for bathrooms, already giving up the darker tiles option. It's just that sitting on the WC, turn right and the cabinet is in your face and you can't turn left coz will hit the shower screen...that feeling is....indescribable..

And sure, will start a blog when design is firmed up! I'm still at the fickle mind stage :sport-smiley-018:

Having said that, the design is very exquisite. you have the right walls bricked and the correct walls coloured. there is good thought placed on the furnishing, especially attractive door and window frames, as well as the panel. The word is eloquent. Congrats on a beautiful home.

I guess the price is acceptable for a suar table that is from a reputable source. If it makes you feel better, I had to pay an additional charge for my black metal legs too. :)

OT abit.. If I could just share one things with you for tiles choosing, remember to check if the tile you chose need to have a minimum grout gap.

Good luck to renovation journey.. I am sure you will find the process really fun! I will be checking your blog out when its up :)

Random updates:

My order from Qoo10 for velvet non slip hangers has arrived.

While its super cheap -around 30 odd cents per piece, I am slightly unhappy with the color. I purchased gray and what i received is like a khaki brown color.
