Is It A Must To Hack The Whole Wall Then Replace By Supporting Beam Or Plaster?

I am considering to hack a portion of my wall and replace with folding door, however I was told that it is a MUST to hack the whole wall then plaster the top back or create a supporting beam back?

I can't just request to hack the portion of the wall required for the doors?

no, it is not a must. but make sure u tell your contractor to add a lintel on top.

Existing wall structure should be more stronger than plaster wall. Make no sense to tear off what is stronger.
