Uchiha Sasuke 1 Report post Posted July 7, 2014 Entrance to kitchen (seen from inside kitchen)... the frames are empty now, as the glass panels will be installed later.Hey I might be doing a half wall with the frames as we'll.. But I want the windows to open... Are urs fixed panels? And for the sliding doors, are these on top hung tracks? I think iron cast doors like super heavyHi Our panels are fixed. The sliding doors are on top hung tracks. =)So far the doors aint that heavy to us but maybe it will be when the glass is up. Think you can explore the option of bi-fold windows for the half wall to get maximum view.

Dwinsplace 48 Report post Posted July 9, 2014 Hey MintyVintage! I think it's really interesting how you went from balinese resort to scandustrial. And quite industrial at that! Lots of unfinished looking laminates with steel. What made you switch? At the start, I was modern industrial, then a bit scandi, then increasingly industrial. Haha. Something about it sucks me in. A black hole of metal and concrete....Oh! Wanted to ask. Do you remember what the price difference was between aluminium frames for your kitchen and the cast iron that you're currently using? Our ID proposed mild steel at first but the cost was about 2.5times more than aluminium so in the end we went for alum even though the borders are so much thicker and less pretty. (and the fact that there is no balcony in our hdb overlooking any sea LOL). one of my ex colleagues also told me that her friend did a resort theme, and it was mistaken as modelled after a chalet.... so that idea immediately went out of our head hahah. we would be better off enjoying a resort while on holiday than trying to mimick one and end up at risk of others thinking our house looks like a chalet!!deciding scandi was easy because we like wood and white... and then industrial came in because like you said there's something about it that similarly drew us to it. the raw and unfinishness of the elements giving a contrast to what people typically think a home should look/feel like (cosy, warm etc)... so that was how it started i guess! and industrial furniture are so much fun and quirky! The price difference between the cast iron and alu was abt couple of hundreds.. IIRC $300. havent got the final quote due to the changes made during the reno process. however our ID had two contacts for the cast iron. one was 2x the price but the workmanship would be better cuz they specialise in making for residential. the one we used was cheaper as they produce for commercial. so there would be some imperfect edges and corners which we could accept. if you look at some of the cast iron used in shopping malls area, they have that jagged corners too. Mild steel seems like it would rust easily... so i think its a key consideration too. i think alu is the most economical and easiest to maintain as well. typically people look at the frames from far, so i think it would all still look good. don't worry! mintyvintage 52 Report post Posted July 16, 2014 Just had a bad experience with Comfort Design. Bought their 2+1 seater sofa and the initial delivery date was supposed to be 19th July. Later on they called and said they will deliver the single seater first on 19th while the double seater will be delayed to end july. today they called again saying it will be delayed to 8th aug. i was super angry because ive friends coming over on 3rd and now i dont have any sofa for them.i cannot accept them pushing the blame to their suppliers for not being able to produce on time and ship over. to me this is your problem not mine. the salesperson suggested loaning me 2 chairs. that doesnt solve my concern. i asked them to use expedited/priority shipping from their supplier to them. but after 3 calls and talking to different salespersons, they couldnt give me this solution.i was exasperated and eventually asked for compensation of these delays and time-consuming energy. One of them had the cheek to ask me if i am using the delay as an excuse to ask for discount. (!) i then told her i do not care for your discount if you could deliver before 3rd aug. if not a discount or compensation in other form is the minimum consolation for any customer. in the end i could only accept the delay and settle for a miserable compensation. but to me, it is the mismanagement of this order that makes us truly upset. Why promise end july in the first place? and if your supplier is giving you problems, you shd have managed your customer's expectations right in the beginning. it is simply a case of not monitoring the order and letting the supplier prioritise other orders before mine. Unacceptable.being let down like that makes me think twice and thrice if i would ever order again from them.
Songz 132 Report post Posted July 17, 2014 I think quite a number of people have bad experience with furniture makers. It seems that they will promise a date which they are not sure just to clinch the sales in first which happen frequently.Good luck

Spend all the money on reno and your friends get reminded of being 16 at east coast... On the other hand... being able to feel 16 again isn't that bad.... When I mention that my house will be industrial I get quite a few faces and comments like "Why would you want to live in a factory?" Haha and to an extent I can see where they are coming from. I suspect the whole industrial loft look came about by artsy people not having the finances to do up their places nicely and so took odds and ends and mishmashed different things together to make ends meet. Then it kinda gained a life of its own. And while it's really getting quite common, I really do love it! Which at the end of the day is what counts yeah?Hmm.. I actually thought cast iron would rust more readily than mild steel. And rust is a very large concern of mine. Esp since my study walls are gng to be made entirely of steel. Have asked the ID to make sure its super protected though. I agree that alu is much lighter and easier to maintain but there is an oomph to steel/iron that it simply lacks. Could you PM me the contacts of the cast iron ppl please? I think it could be worth a look.Oh and good luck with comfort. I hate that sort of thing too. Pisses me off when promises are not met. Don't promise if you can't deliver. And saying that you were using it as leverage for a further discount would have had me exploding into the telephone. Hope it gets to you and that once you see it in your lovely home, all these memories fade away.

Galvanizing (This act as a coat of protect over the mild steel to prevent it from rust)3. Paint / Spray Paint the color you want over the Mild Steel (*Do 2 coating ) - You may need to add Primer before it (Not sure )(*Usually Step 1 and 2 is done together at those Galvanizing Yard)Hope this helps.
