How you can save few hundrend of dollars if your floor area is big.

1) Measure the floor area yourself in square meter.

Multiple the total floor area in sqm by 10.764 to get total floor area in square feet.

Vendor charge by per sqft.

If you don't measure yourself vendor will give you a higher measurement.

2) Ask the vendor their Vinyl or HERF per box is for how many square meter.

example.

1 box have 8 pieces of Vinyl or HERF.

1 piece is 1200mm by 200mm

So 1 box total can cover 1.92sqm floor area

3) Add 2-3% wastage

example

your floor area is 40 sqm

plus wastage your total Vinyl or HERF needed should be about 40.8 to 41.2sqm

2% should be enough. 3% would be safe.

4) Since you need 40.8sqm,

so 40.8sqm divide by 1.92sqm = 21.25 boxes

21 box multiple by 1.92sqm = 40.32sqm which is more than your floor area of 40sqm

So tell them you will order 21 box plus 1 box extra. Total 22 boxes. Extra box not use will return and refund back.

Remember to put that extra box one side if not the worker will open up all the boxes and you won't be able to refund back.

5) Remember to count the boxes and tell that person you only bring how many boxes so as to prevent any argument. when it arrive because you order that quantity and any balance ( few pieces ) you should keep. If not vendor can reuse and resell.

Vendor will say wastage is about 5%. Don't bother about that just use 2% - 3% wastage is enough.

Try to measure yourself and than compare with the vendor measurement. Eventually just use your measurement.

How vendor earn extra from you.

1) Tell you a higher floor area measurement.

2) Tell you add 5% wastage.

3) Take back those unuse loose pieces

Do your sum here. If you measure 40sqm and vendor say my measurement is 41sqm. We will use 41sqm than.

41sqm multiple by 5% wastage will be 43.05sqm. Therefore you need about 23 boxes because we sell by boxes. If you don't count how many boxes they bring over they may only give you 22boxes and if really not enough (I'm quite sure it should be enough) than they will use those loose pieces thus they short change you!

1 box extra will cost you 1.92sqm x 10.764sqft x $5.5psf x $1.07 = $121.6

If u feel the floor decor will still be available after 3 years by all means follow the above,but if you want spare materials to keep,fearing you can't get the similar design again,you should be smart enough to act or re-act to it.
