Looking For Contractor (False Ceiling) Who Can Avoid Electric Short Circuit

Recommended Posts

HI All,

As I am planning to carry out false ceiling install to my place for some 500 plus sqft, I am concern that firing nails into the concrete ceiling may caused concealed electrical wiring to be cut and short circuit the house as a result.

I checked with one contractor on who should bear the repair cost and he said the owner would. Shouldn't the contractor be experienced enough to use tools to detect hidden pipes or wiring? he replied they don't use such tools but mention they will try to avoid. How can they avoid without proper tools?. What is more ridiculous is that they will not be responsible for the short circuit and owner should pay to rectify.

I would like to consult experienced contractors and forumer for your advice on this matter before I engage any contractor on this.

Please let me know if you have good contractor who is professional enough to avoid such potential problems

Thanks,

Yes, I think you should reject any contractor that tells you they are not responsible if they drilled into wires, pipes, etc.

Unfortunately, I have not come across any contractor that uses detecting tools to sniff out wires, etc.

The scanner tools that you find in most hardware shops are not reliable and slows down their work.

Once I had my air con draining pipe drilled and it took a very long time before it was found that the leak was due to drilling.

It was mystifying in the sense that there was no leak unless the water level reaches the level of the drilled hole.

Anyway, best is to stay away from any contractor that does not want to bear responsibilities for their faults.

Thanks for your advice. In today's context, most if not all contractors want fast and easy job. Owners are usually at the losing end.

I am still hoping to find a reliable one.
