alfredt 27 Report post Posted April 6, 2014 you gotta think of a way before the pest attack other places. then the problem gets bigger. maybe consider removing the infected cupboard first.
LionFlyer 8 Report post Posted April 6, 2014 Ah, but it is part of the kitchen cabinet, and happens to be at the sink area. I can't remove it without affecting the sink or the table top. This is stupid problem to have and more money down the drain.

LionFlyer 8 Report post Posted April 8, 2014 My contractor quoted me $4.5k (excl. GST) to redo the kitchen. 1) Design & fabricate 1 set of top & bottom kitchen cabinet in laminate finishes (L6400mm), $27002) Supply labour & material to install 1 set of solid surface top - L4000mm, $12603) Misc (labour to remove existing cabinets and other.)Is this reasonable? bianzi 52 Report post Posted April 8, 2014 Don't do solid top la. Doesn't last.. Do at least iquartz
LionFlyer 8 Report post Posted April 9, 2014 What is iQuartz and why is it better than the usual solid top like Dupont's Corian?Anyway, my contractor confirmed it is dry termite and he left the choice to replace the kitchen cabinets up to me.
koori 45 Report post Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Article on comparison here (some angmo website, but I thought the comparison in table form was nicely listed) :http://www.abellastonellp.com/products_comparison.cfmMain issue with solid top is that it is not heat resistant. Must remember do not place hot pans/pots or watever on the counter top, will leave a mark. Not sure about the pricing though. There are several brands of quartz in the market. iQuartz is just one of the brands. Ks Toh 74 Report post Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Termites can spread. In my previous place, they attacked three different places, entrance shoe cupboard, yard cabinet, and toilet cabinet on a different floor. You can try to see if you can contain the problem by following this method: http://jrguild.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-treat-home-for-dry-wood-termitesIf you fail, you might have no choice but to change the cabinets. If you succeed, good for you. Edited April 9, 2014 by kstoh
LionFlyer 8 Report post Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) But termites will destroy the internal wood n the whole structure will become weak n may collapse in the future. No meh?Yes, but the question is how long does it take? My contractor and my brother says it takes very long. Years. In any case, I consulted a friend who is a facility manager. According to her, yes, I can try to do some DIY treatment and it may be effective if the infestation is localized. But the main thing is as long as the queen is alive, the infestation will continue and come back. She didn't advise to replace straight away but to monitor the situation first. If the dry termite pellets persist, then the infestation would have spread and probably should replace. Edited April 9, 2014 by LionFlyer
sakinaaah 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2014 The fan was delivered and installed today. It is a pretty generic Crestar Icol fan, I got it at DIY Bathroom near to Alexandra Market because I was looking for my mini-spray (something I decided to add last minute) and it wasn't too far from my office.Too troublesome to go all the way to Balestier or Jln Besar from Pasir Panjang. What's left now is:1) install my bathroom vanities/basin washer2) install my wardrobes3) install my living room partition4) complete the wiring5) grind and revarnish the parquet floorsHopefully, it will get done this week.Do you remember how ur LED light was mounted on ur ICOL? My electrician had problem installing mine.
