Extremely Bad Experience With Haller Far East Pte Ltd

Recommended Posts

Dear All, just thought of sharing my terrible experience with Haller Far East and something for you to consider before engaging any contractor especially Haller. We have started sourcing for contractor since Mar and in April we have decided to use Haller, the service then was good and relatively professional, all phone calls were answered promptly, so we thought it should be a OK company. We went ahead with the contract and the following spells out the events that subsequently happened.

  1. The agreement on the cabinets was signed and deposit placed on 7th May 2013 and contract mentioned that they will install everything in 2 months. We wanted the installation to be in mid July hence they should have more then 2 months.
  2. To facilitate my renovation, I rented a place and move out for a month and expecting to move back in 3rd week of July after the cabinets including my platform bed to be installed, however, Haller has a major delay and my cabinets were late for delivery by 2 weeks. With all these delay, I have to move back to an empty house where things are not done and have to stay in the house while they are doing all the renovation. Meanwhile it cause a lot of health problem for my little girl due to all the dust (I have send my girl to my in law’s place in the end).
  3. With the delay of all the cabinets, I have to reschedule all other works that are related like plumbing, touching up of paint work, wiring, skirting etc. What make things more difficult is that Haller refuses to commit to a firm date of delivery and I have to keep shifting all the other works pending the cabinets.
  4. Finally, when the cabinets arrived, all cabinets that I ordered have errors in them a lot of them are major errors that differes a lot from the drawings and a lot of minor erros as well, here’s a list for reference:
    1. The vanity top drawers cannot fit in as piping has block the U-shape drawer. I had specifically reminded Haller, during the design phase to be mindful of the piping to ensure that the drawers can fit in appropriately and account manager came 3 rounds to measure the piping and yet the drawers cannot fit in. A major rework here and now the back panel of the cabinet is very ugly due to the rework and sawing etc. to fit the piping.
    2. Haller has agreed to provide a 1 meter in-cabinet drying dish rack in one of the top kitchen cabinet, however, when delivered, the dish rack is not there, instead, it has become 2 cabinets of 50cm wide.
    3. I have designed my girl’s room with a platform bed that comes with drawers, the drawers were not there upon delivery and in its place, it becomes a cabinet with door. The back panel to the bed was also measured wrongly and cannot cover the whole back panel, leaving an ugly gap (potentially for spider pet)
    4. My master bedroom side cabinets which are supposed to be drawers have become cabinet doors as well. Later on, they changed to drawers but did not consider the skirting on the floor and the drawers now cannot be opened, the top drawers are still not installed as of today (17 Oct) 3 months after the delivery date.
    5. The sink for the vanity top was not ordered in advance and they forgot what model I had ordered. Finally reminded them of the model and it came without the tap and blame me that I did not mention to them that sink comes with tap.
    6. There are a lot more errors which are minors, like drawers delivered wrongly, where I requested soft closing, it was delivered as tic-tac opening, the cabinet door cannot be tic-tac open and still cannot as of today etc. A lot more, trust me, a lot more…
  5. Haller mentioned that their workers are very experience etc. Please do not trust them, the installation skills of the workers are very bad, they are not skillful at all. The top kitchen cabinet were slanted almost like falling off, upon rectification, the doors of the top cabinet cannot be opened and got stuck. The drawers they install, cannot be opened and the frustrating thing is when I feedback to their manager, the manager said “we have install so many darwers, only yours have problem!”. Yet he don’t even dare to come to my unit to verify. The drawers still cannot be opened until subsequently, they managed to rectify that. Some of my drawers are installed slanted, you can see that it is not straight and yet pending rectification work.
  6. In between these problems, Haller has been very unresponsive; very unlike the time before we sign the contract. I have to at least dial 4 to 5 times continuously before the manager is willing to pick up the call and the way speaks is like too bad, you should expect to bear with all these problem as they are yours now. Similarly, calling the project manager was tough too. Now they don't even bother to pick up my call (and I only call them like once in 2 weeks frequency) and the manager will cut off the line and subsequently shut off his phone.
  7. During this period it has been very exhaustive for my family and myself to stay in a house constantly generating dust and dealing with Haller whose unapologetic and “Boh Chap” attitude and did not put in enough resources to manage the project. I have exhausted all my leave managing this on their behalf.
  8. I have requested for a monetary compensation which Haller has agreed upon but the amount is insignificant as compared to the suffering and the amount of annual leave that I have wasted.
  9. Now, 3 months down the road, a lot of rectifications are not done yet, just yesterday when they came to install the glass back panel (yes, it took them 3 months), the size was measured wrongly and they had only 1 panel that was installed correctly (probably out of 6 panels), the rest are unable to fit in or too small.
  10. What seems to be a merely 6 weeks work has become more than 3 months of terror, my girl’s birthday is round the corner and we likely can’t use our place for her party as looking at all the works that are still not done, our things are still partially unpack as we are waiting for the cabinets to be ready. Hope, I shared this experience all this forum and you guys are able to learn from my experience. In my life I made mistakes here and there and this must be the BIGGEST mistake of my life. Now Haller don’t even pick up call. The manager just cut off the line and later turn his handphone off.

Regards

Wayne

However, I must say the quality of the cabinets are not too bad (so far, only time can tell), it's the installation skill and the errors they make during the discussion phase. Hence it ended with a lot of rectification and they are very slow and poor in getting back.

By the way, does anone has a good contractor who is willing to do some of the rectification works. I don't think I want to wait any longer for Haller. Appreciate your recommendation. Thank you in advance.

Recently, I lodged a case against Haller (Far East) Pte Ltd at the small claims tribunals.

I am awarded a Money Order and yet Haller has not made any payment.

Caution: Engaged Haller at your own Risk.
