Not very good in finding fanciful stuff on taobao. We only order basic necessities. Simple lights, shower systems and some accessories. The China agent check the quality and she email me a photo of all the items. Thumbs up for her service. :thumbs up: It was sent out two Thursday ago and it arrived yesterday. Packing was good and solid.

Our lights are very simple. Philips lights for kitchen and guestrooms and for toilets, it's just a holder with bulb. Lol. Savings from those is all put into the dining and master bedroom lights. We need crystals lights for our dining table (due to fs) but didn't want anything fanciful. Found a simple led light and it holds crystals (yeah!)

For the bedroom light, it is quite a headache. My master bedroom become much smaller because I insisted a TV and it will be mounted behind the warerobe. We want a hanging pendant light but didnt see anything that we fancy for a long time. Saw a lovely one from renotalk and found out it was from ikea and rush down the next day. I stood at the area for a good 30mins thinking whether it is too big and decided to let it go. Boo.

Finally saw something simple on Sunday. It is not very bright due to the layers. Saw another one that is cheaper and more practical (brighter) which Seb love that but I love this more and in the end, heart wins over the brain.

Hi Vi,

I read your blog and posts here. Congratulation for your lovely home, it is nice!

I just about to start my research for renovation and have confuse to engage an ID or contractors. Can you share your experiences with me?

For contractor, I will need to find plumber, carpenter, etc, correct?
Can you share your contractor contacts with me?

Many thanks!

Hi Cathc,

ID helps with project mangement and provide 3D designs. And they engage contractor who has his own team of pple. Of coz u hv to pay a higher fee becoz of these services. U bypass the middle man and go straight to contractor, savings are substantial but u need to put in more effort to manage ur reno. My contractor has his team of electricians, plumbers, painters etc so u dun hv to source them. But there are members who source individual grps but again, u hv to do the coordination. I didn't and merely hv a contractor. My design ideals are fairly simple and I do not see a need to engage a ID for my case.

His contact is in my signatory. His quote are fairly reasonable and he does provide design ideas. HTH.

Hi Mrs E,

Urs juz painted over with paint? But likely u left it raw. Didnt liked the sandy feel and so Alan suggest to lacquer it.. Hmm wonder any other ways?

Lacquer over the bricks will give them an artificial glossy look right? Our bricks were not lacquered over.

Nope we didn't do anything to the bricks... Left them as they are. Only wiped off some dust with wet wipes whenever we remember (haha this is not frequent)!

Review on Furniture Club IMM

Despite all the bad reviews on renotalk, I decided to purchase a sofa from FC because the saleslady promised top quality work. I even gave a good review on the forum.

Delivery was due on 16th November and I called service hotline on 4th to reschedule to 30th November. Someone called us later to inform us the colour of the sofa is out of stock. I understand it takes at least a month to customise the sofa. Am surprised it was inform so late which I believe they totally forgot about our order.

This is totally unacceptable considering we paid our deposit on 30th June, a good 5 months earlier and paid the remaining amount on 15th October.

We choose the sofa because we were attracted to the unique colour (which I mention in the forum) and to be informed so last minute the colour is no longer in production is outright ridiculous.

We went down on Friday and could not fancy any other colours. The store manager promised us FULL refund. The main office called us today and told us they will refund us full refund. (DUH)

It is very distressing having to find another sofa so last minute. Boo

On a happier note, many things done week 9 of renovation. Chemical washing, parquet polishing, herf and carpentry.

I am most pleased with Alan's carpentry. Alan's workers do work fast. I expected carpentry to be in on Monday but received a call at 1plus on Saturday telling me they are on the way there! Pop down on Saturday and yesterday. A team of 4 was hard at work. It was done done within two days and they cleared up after. A photo of the head carpenter Ah Gui. He said alot of people requested for him to do their carpentry. Well, I am not surprised. He was easy to talk to and will give advice. Happily posed for this picture when I told him I will post a picture on renotalk. :jammin:

I concur with the rest of the Alan's clients. Carpentry is top-notch. :thumbs up:

Haha Ah Gui is really nice but a bit blur at times. A few weeks back, we saw him buying 4D. Almost wanted to 'disturb' him - Ah Gui, eat snake har? Lol

Anyways we intend to look for him directly next time if we need more carpentry work. Good for u to keep the numbers of the better sub-cons...
