mrswk 4 Report post Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) I spent my entire life looking at photographs of beautiful houses. Haa..Days were spent daydreaming and visualizing on how my future home will look like.Anyway, me and the husband kinda know what kinda 'vibe' we want for our home.Armed with magazine cut-outs, 3D photoshop drawings i did, we embarked on a self-design reno journey! Our house reno works was divided into 2 parts. All carpentry works was done by my father-in-law, who is a carpenter.Husband's friend who owns a ID company, helped us find contractors for other works like false ceilings, electrical wirings, hacking of walls, etc.Ours was a complicated one, we have to liaise closely with both sides before and during reno. But end result was WORTH the hassle! mrswk 4 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 Yay another self designed space. Looking forward to your progress. Good luck!Hi greglhc, thanks! We were actually quite lucky that our reno project was a smooth one.Except on one occasion, the electrician kinda drill into our kitchen backsplash when he was fixing the switch. My heart shattered at the same time as the glass. LOL!Glass uncle came back 1 week later to replace, he says 'nice wat?! Unique! No need change!' Now my reno phrase is in the 'decorating' part.
mrswk 4 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 More on the house concept and reno works need to be done.We opt for the floorings and toilet fittings during flat selection.Fast forward 3 years later, decided that the floor tiles supplied by hdb was kinda 'dull'. Therefore, decided to use kronotex laminate flooring for the entire house, except the kitchen.Budget conscious, we retained the toilets in original condition, hdb supplied mosaic tiles to stay.We decided to make 'it works in our favor'.But the pedestal sinks hafta go! mrswk 4 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 The day they installed the laminate flooringThis was the 'supposed hdb layout plan for dining area'. We convert it into our tv area.Wider wall space for tv console 'feature' wall.Common room/study room or husband's game room. Relocated the door. Waiting for glass to be installed, so i can peek on the husband from the living room! Reason to have glass wall, so the place will 'open up', bright and airy. The brown wall area will be our dining area with a 'view'
greglhc 30 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 The shattered glass does look nice to me hahaI think it's good one of u is more chin chai about color/finishings then less disagreement and compromise!
mrswk 4 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 Master bedroom wall painted into 2 colors. Brown for the headboard area. The rest in whitish grey.According to The Daily Mail, a new study looked at 2000 homes across the U.K. to see if the color of a bedroom can influence how much sleep its occupants get. Their survey indicated that the most restful color for a bedroom is blue, with people sleeping in blue bedrooms getting on average seven hours and 52 minutes of sleep a night. And Brown is the lowest. LOL. But it on my headboard area, so it's ok. I'm still staring on white walls. The husband wanted grey for his study/game room
mrswk 4 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 The shattered glass does look nice to me hahaI think it's good one of u is more chin chai about color/finishings then less disagreement and compromise!Haa.. but we still 'argued' occasionally over laminates and colors. He says i took so **** long to choose!
mrswk 4 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 I mentioned about keeping the toilet mosaic tiles as it is. We matches the tiles with a laminate for the cabinet, color as close as possible. We using alot of 'wood' laminate for the house. Was given 2 sets of laminate book. Decided to chose Lamitak over Lam Chuan. Both have really nice colors. But i better stick to 1 book, else i gonna take more than 1 month for choosing laminates alone.Kitchen is almost done, waiting for countertop and kitchen backsplash. I love white marble top. But.. over budget and was told it was hard to maintain. Chose granite instead. I wanna create a 'bistro/cafe' vibe for our small alley kitchen. Did some 3d illustrations and showed my father-in-law. On one side of the kitchen, i do not need many storage. I told him i need a shelf so i can 'display' my barang barangs and i need a space for me to prepare food or bake. We discussed about my idea, what's feasible and what's not. This is the outcome! The living room is somehow done..
