Hi oldskool, the Playbar sounds OK without the SONOS SUB (esp. for movies)?

I also interested to know where to get the Playbar under 1K leh. Hehe.

I bought my Play 5 late last year via Amazon (need to go via forwarder). Confirm - It's dual voltage (no need transformer). :)

hi MLTR,

the soundbar is definitely better with the sub, although i find it abit pricey... the bf has been tryg to pyscho me to get the sub... the soundbar in general is pretty good already but if u are particular abt the low bass sounds... the sub is definitely a must-get! was tryg to find a cheaper alternative but don't think the samsung one is good enough though

Thanks sleepybeauty for the feedback. Yeah, the SUB is pricy but certainly good to have!

Thanks oldskool for sharing initial review. FYI - When I bought my Play 5 from Amazon, it came with the free bridge. I bio very long (waited for promotion, did price homework as Sonos are not cheap) before taking the plunge. Haha. Cheers! :)

i just search on AMAZON and it's going for USD399 for the PLAY 5! too bad they don't shipped to spore lo.. and im not sure if it's still worth it to have it shipped over to spore via the forwarder... just worried that shipping costs too high and what about warranty issues?

BTW, anyone keen for group buy for the SONOS soundbar? PM me!

hey greg, mltr, sleepybeauty,

do u guys know if with a playbar connected directly to my router, does a separate play 3 needs to be connected via ethernet cable for them to work together? can this sync take place wirelessly? without a bridge.

cheers!

a very sad piece of news for those who are looking to buy the PLAY 3 or PLAY 5... there's no more FREE BRIDGE after the COMEX show yesterday.. i just verified with parisilk and harvey norman. they say the free bridge was given by the agent and after the show, they had to return it back to them.. thus they are unable to offer me the same deal today .. sob sob... i guess i shall have to wait for the next PC fair to get it

Wow! Suddenly this has become a Sonos club. Haha!

Hi oldskool, my 0.00002 cents (don't flame me if I am wrong hah).

As long as a Sonos component (in this case your Playbar) is connected to the router, it acts like a bridge and the Play 3 can then be moved to the rear (for surround sound effect). The Playbar and Play 3 can be paired and made to "talk" to each other (wirelessly) by setting up and controlling the Sonos app.

From Sonos forum:

Question: I have just purchased a Sonos Playbar which I love, I want to turn the Playbar into a 5.1 system, so what else do I need to buy, at present my Playbar is connected to my wifi router, any help would be great, the thing I am most confused about is the Bridge, do I actually need it to connect the SUB to and to connect the Play3 speakers, thanks in advance, Mark.

Answer: A minimum of one Sonos unit must be wired. Since your Playbar is wired you don't need a Bridge. As for making a 5.1 system, you'd want a SUB and a pair of Play:3s. The Playbar will talk directly to its satellites wirelessly.

HTH.

Cheers! ;)

sorry to disappoint all the SONOS fan (including myself!) i just called up parisilk tis evening and they can't offer me the under 1k quote now.. the guy said that price was a pre-ordered price .. however im probably heading down to parisilk this week to get some other stuff so i will have a chat with the guy again to see if they can do a better price than 1099 for us.. will keep u all informed if any good news!

Sorry about that :( i will probably look to get the PLAY5 via amazon if shipping is not too costly...arrrggghhh

we received our first house warming gift which is a cool tupperware 10 kg rice container, which uses a first in first out concept.

blends in well with the green kmix kettle and toaster we think.

we also got a mini rice cooker from zojirushi.

just as a comparison of the size beside the microwave:

good to see how the items we planned to place on the kitchen top are falling into place, and still leaves us some working space! :)

also got 2 small containers, no idea what to use them for yet, but just got it cos of the engraving on it.
