Tangie's - 3 Room Reno Journey

Recommended Posts

hi may i know how big is the spacing you put for your living curtain? 6 inch or 8 inch?

If I didn't remember wrongly, the space is 6 inch. Was told that this is the industry standard.

Solid Countertop with no-drip

The Mr insisted that he wanted a no-drip solid countertop while Mr K recommended granite.

Here is the countertop which the Mr is very pleased about.

another of his baby is this sink. He loves this sink so much that we bought it almost immediately.

The texture is different from the usual sink that we see. Will use a better camera for a close-up as my hp is unable to capture the effect.

Glass backing installed

Since reno is coming to an end, I am back here to conclude about my experience with Mr K.

Carpentry work is good

I would say that overall carpentry work is good. There were some scratches and tiny hole that seems to be caused by sharp edge of bulky things. I guess all these are unavoidable. Aside from these, the joints are good, materials are of good quality, workmanship is good overall! As for durability, only time will tell.. probably need a few years...

I was disappointed that he didn't pass us the lamitak booklet and we, in a rush, make do with the not so nice design that was given to us. He also didn't suggest lamitak laminates when we couldnt decide from the sample given. :dunno:

Flooring

Very neat. Spotted one or two uneven skirting and tiny 2 tiny gaps so far. All these can be touched up and rectified.

I have a neighbour who has to saw his door shorter due to the flooring. The tilers probably didnt start from the entrance?

Painting

He left the last layer of paint last, and I went to check with him why. I thought it was to finished the last layer, do the carpentry then touch up with paint. He said touch up not nice, will see patches of color here and there. Very true!!! Tested and proven. There were dirty finger marked left by the electrician, the Mr tried to touch up (dw to ask the painter down again) and there is a patch there. -_-:So end up, the painter still gotta make a trip down.

Others

Whenever we feedback or tell him our concern, he would return with a solution or make arrangement pretty quickly. Just that I dont really get to see him and haven't seen the "artistic/designer" side of him.

Well, there isn't much for him to display his talent too, as you can see, our reno is a simple one. We wanted something practical and safe for the kids. But the Kitchen tempered glass door doesnt seem so kids friendly now. He did warned us about the door being very big and heavy and would need more hinge, we used 3. Don't remember him mentioning anything about safety. I should have asked him to suggest for alternative. Tsk!

All in all, :good:!

Service Yard

Mr K was very quick to point on that this pipe will be relocated... after relocation...

Our 8kg Front Load can fit in nicely.. still considering if we needed to get a dryer (in case the clothes doesn't dry, we will get one.. but that will be after we move in..)

The Mr insisted to deliver the washer before the carpentry is completed and now, my washer is full of dust and dirt!

Lesson learnt: Never ever deliver washer before carpentry work is completed!

Fridge and other appliances still not so bad, but for washer, the delivery man will NEED to UNWRAP your washer and install for you...

As for fridge, one can always just put the plug in and on the switch, no installation required..

Hi, is this a drainage pipe? Sorry for asking a stupid qns coz I''m kinda confuse on the terms -outlet pipe & drainage pipe, are they the same?

I have moved in for 8 months, since Dec 2013.

It's horrifying when I saw tiny fungus alike stuff growing out between the silicon and sink. (I wiped the fungus off before taking this pic, too gross!!!)

I peeked at the underneath of the sink and saw these...

Can someone enlighten me what are these? Any good silicon to recommend to prevent growth of these disgusting mould?

Anyone experience the same thing before? Please share your experience.

I spoke to my contractor, the solution he gave was to use a knife to clear all the yucky stuff, then re-seal the top with new silicon.

Hihi, I also discovered that the metal below the blum track turns rusty.

Anyone also experience the same??? Just 8 months of usage only...
